Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community (formally know as Franklin United Methodist Community) opened its doors in 1957 as a continuing care retirement community that provides a variety of living options and care choices for retired persons. The long-standing traditions and standards of the United Methodist Church remain a part of our community; however residency is open to persons of all faiths and denominations. Assisted living search tip: Ask “What time is breakfast?”

In general, assisted living policies are either professional-directed or client-centered. Professional-directed communities tend to follow strict itineraries, with daily regimens for everything from bedtime to mealtimes.

Client-centered communities, on the other hand, allow residents to choose what time they rise, and when they eat their meals. In fact, client-centered communities actually encourage residents to make their own choices about their daily activities.

Research shows that client-centered practices have higher positive outcomes for both residents and staff. If you’re looking for a client-centered assisted living community, the ideal answer to the question, “What time is breakfast?” would be “Whatever time you want.”

The Taste of Otterbein was in full swing yesterday at the Otterbein Olympics at Otterbein St. Mary’s in Ohio! On the menu for Franklin was jerk chicken with coconut rice and an orange cupcake with orange rum sauce, Yum! Every year at the Otterbein Olympics, there is a competition between the chefs of all of the Otterbein communities. Otterbein Franklin did not win this year, but there’s always next year! The wonderful thing about the taste of Otterbein is you get to taste everyone’s entry into the competition. They were all fabulous and everyone enjoyed sampling all of the entries!

The 2025 Otterbein SeniorLife Olympics is in the record books! Otterbein Franklin took home the Gold medal and Silver medal in Pickleball and Co****le and the Silver Medal in Volleyball!!!! We are so proud of our teams - this is the sixth year in a row that we have brought home a Gold Medal in Pickleball! Congratulations to everyone that participated and thank you to Otterbein St. Mary’s for welcoming us with open arms and hosting this wonderful event. Now we need to get practicing for next year!

Who is giving who therapy??? Emmy the Therapy dog and resident Linda Ratliff have a moment together this week enjoying one another’s company! Emmy is a regular visitor here at Otterbein Franklin and the residents love her visits. Emmy’s human is our new Rehab and Long Term Care Navigator Crystal Huffman.
