More information on arrangements for Kris Hammond.
Washington D.C.– Kristofor J. Hammond, age 43, of Washington D.C. formally of McCordsville, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017. He was born on June 4, 1973 in Evanston, IL, as the son of Robert C. and Jaris A. (Standley) Hammond. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1991. Kristofor received his degree in Political Science and Journalism from Franklin College in Franklin, IN and continued his education at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from both colleges.
He was a former civil rights attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington D.C., who fought passionately for equal rights for others, before going into private practice in Alexandria, Virginia. Kristofor was a member of the Lambdi Chi Fraternity, Federalist Society, and Young Republicans.
He is survived by his parents, Robert and Jaris Hammond of McCordsville; brothers, Timothee A. Hammond of Indianapolis and Nicholas L. Hammond of Baltimore, MD; and sister, Kelly (Jerry) McGilvary of Eufaula, AL. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Harriet (Curry) Hammond of Bloomington, IN; and grandparents, George L. (Marie) Standley and Betty Standley.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Dr. Donald Griffith will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery, 621 S State St, Greenfield, IN 46140.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kristofor J. Hammond Scholarship Fund in care of Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140, or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
