As a mental health therapist and reflective consultant, I often emphasize the importance of integrating body movement to improve mental and physical health. It can begin with as little as 10 minutes of movement, 2-3 times a day. Wherever you are in your journey, be kind and patient with yourself.🫶🏽 Today, after completing my 500th Pure Barre class, I'm sharing a snapshot of my two-year journey.😊

In recognition of Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, I encourage men to pause, slow down, and reflect on their mental well-being. Take a moment to check in with yourself and your fellow brothers. It's ok to seek professional support. Let's normalize the importance of mental health in maintaining our overall well-being.♥️

Love This!
Brene' Brown's insights on the unrealistic nature of the 50/50 concept in relationships highlight the importance of partners supporting each other through their imbalances. If one partner can be brave, vulnerable, and transparent about being at 20% capacity today, it could create space for the other partner to say “I got you, I can pull the other 80% today.” I appreciate her perspective on discussing or having a plan for managing days when combined capacities are less than 100%. Acknowledging when combined capacities are less than 100% can offer grace, space, and safety within💕

Many of us are unsure what we could say to a loved one who has survived trauma that would be helpful and make them feel safe. Here are some common phrases to avoid—and some to try instead.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, let's focus on cultivating self-compassion. By acknowledging that we're doing the best we can, we can silence our inner critic and give ourselves the kindness and understanding we deserve. ♥️

Hi Friends!
As a mental health therapist I recognize the importance of both mental and physical health and how they can balance or inbalance us.

A little over 18 months ago, I learned that I was pre-diabetic and was on the verge of needing to start blood pressure medication. I knew something had to change to avoid becoming hypertensive and diabetic. In March of 2024 I started attending Pure Barre classes 3-4 times a week. It was then when the weightloss started to kick in. I now attend 5-7 classes a week. I have cut back
on portion sizes and I now make more intentional food choices. Over the past 18 months, I have lost over 65 pounds. I’m no longer pre diabetic and my blood pressure remains within normal range. Today I completed my 250th PB class! It was a 60 minute focus class! I love how Pure Barre classes continue to challenge me to be the strongest version of myself! I encourage you to engage in regular self care practices to promote your mental and physical wellness!

The original narrative may be:
-18-25 year-olds who thought they would have life figured out by now.
-25-30 year-olds who thought that they would be at a different place professionally and personally.
-30 and older single adults who thought they would have found their significant other or be married by now. -Married people who thought they’d be totally happy and full-filled in their marriages.
-Seperated and divorced folks who never saw their unions ending.
-Expectant, new, and seasoned parents who had envisioned a more joyful or full-filled parenting experience.
-Professionals who had hoped to have reached their career goals and aspirations by now.
-Wounded people who thought they’d be healed by now.
-Discouraged people who thought they’d be further along in their health, wealth, and fitness journeys.
-50 plus year olds struggling with transitioning: to empty nesters, going through menopause, planning for retirement, caring for and or loosing their parents.
-Post Retirement folks who didn’t realize how they’d have to: set boundaries with their adult kids, be creative in setting a daily schedule and routine, manage and monitor declines in both their mental and physical health, experience grief/loss on so many levels.
-Adults who never thought that they or someone they love would be battling mental, emotional, physical, or financial hardships.
Most of us are either there, been there, or we will be there. The good news is we can rewrite the narrative!! We can find places of peace and joy in all of these life spaces. I invite you to allow me to help you rewrite your narrative!

May is Maternal Mental Health Month, and it’s time we start talking.

Every year, thousands of mothers experience postpartum depression, anxiety, or trauma—and many are left feeling alone, misunderstood, or unsupported.

At Homeland Heart Birth & Wellness Collective, we stand with mothers during and after birth, reminding them:

You are not alone. Your feelings are valid. Support is available.

This month, we’ll be spotlighting maternal mental health resources, local support services, and real stories from women in our community. Whether you’re a new mom, expecting, or years into motherhood—your mental well-being matters.

Let’s normalize asking for help. Let’s build a village around every mama.

In recognition of Maternal Mental Health Month in May, it is essential to acknowledge that one in five pregnant women and new mothers will experience maternal mental health challenges. Awareness about these common and serious issues must be promoted. It is important to recognize that even mothers who appear to be managing well can struggle with maternal mental health. These challenges do not have to be faced alone. You are a good mom and you’re not alone.
