Two years ago, Graham started training using . From day 1 he bought into the process and playing the long game. There have been countless sessions of motor pattern practice, short range of motion squats, to using DBs/KBs, trainer bars, different variations from body weight, banded, goblet, Zercher, front, to eventually low bar.
Over the past two years he’s never had more than 225 # on his back. When he did, recently, at the end of phase 4 of a strength cycle, he did it 12x. He was ready to test.
Warming up and building in weight, my thought was he’d be in the 285-295 range. He surpassed it with ease taking 325 # for an easy smooth ride. He EASILY, had another 15-20 # in him, but we stopped.
Why? Because that was enough for tonight’s session. Graham trusts the process and knows we’re playing the long game. We don’t push to failure or the slightest technical flaw…we leave a little in the tank.
As always, Graham didn’t question why we stopped, no ego, he is extremely proud of what he’s accomplished and left the session excited to start the process over to build for a new goal that we’ll accomplish over the course of 4-5 months.
We do what’s best for kids.
