Greater Macomb Project Vox has provided testimony to state lawmakers, in an effort to retain state-funded treatment programs. Working closely with the Macomb County Office of Substance Abuse and CARE, Greater Macomb Project Vox participates in transforming the current system of care to one based on the integration of recovery focused services. Through letter writing campaigns, members we
re a large part of helping move parity legislation through the steps necessary to becoming law. Greater Macomb Project Vox led the way in obtaining the most signatures on petitions calling for adequate funding for treatment. Michigan policy makers now know that treatment funding should be a priority as they consider budget cuts. EDUCATE:
Greater Macomb Project Vox members have been quoted in many local and national publications. Members facilitate educational and support groups that provide services to members of the recovery community. The group’s quarterly newsletter is fast becoming a hub of information for the recovery advocacy movement and it’s allies across the state and nationally. CELEBRATE:
For the last four years members of Greater Macomb Project Vox have participated in the National Celebrate Recovery March and Rally. On September 12, 2009 events were staged all over the country that brought an estimated 70,000 people together to join in supporting the recovery community. For the first time, the September events surrounding Celebrate Recovery included using art as activism with theater productions and poetry readings.
