This afternoon, I stepped outside to begin harvesting dandelions — gathering the flower heads for infusing castor oil and honey — and found the garden teaming with life and plant allies.
Dandelion, bright and resilient as always.
Purple nettle, ready to offer support for allergy season along with the violets, growing low and soft, full of quiet nourishment.
Instead of moving quickly through the harvest, I slowed down.
I gathered a bit of each and made a simple backyard tea when I was done — a decoction of what was growing to support a moment of breath held by the season.
And it tasted like pure spring - I added a bit of my thyme, rosemary, and sage infused local honey to add even more respiratory support.
There’s something important in those moments.
Something I return to again and again in my practice.
Herbalism isn’t just about learning properties or memorizing uses.
It’s about relationship.
It’s about presence.
It’s about understanding how plants work together — and how they meet us where we are in a given season.
🌿
This is something we’ll be exploring in an upcoming gathering:
Herbalism for Spring & Summer
Sunday, April 19 | 1pm |
We’ll talk about:
• building relationships with the plants around you
• working with seasonal herbs in simple, accessible ways
• understanding energetic interactions (cooling, warming, drying, moistening)
• and how to begin supporting your body and home with what’s already growing nearby
It’s a gentle, community-centered learning space, where all are welcome - donation of $15 suggested. Virtual options are being explored.
If you’ve been curious about herbalism — or wanting to deepen your connection to the plants and energies of the seasons — you’re warmly invited.
