Change Healthcare is STILL DOWN. As stated the other day in multiple posts, other clearinghouses and individual payers have turned off their connections to Change Healthcare for their own protection. I don't think the media understands how big of an issue this is to the healthcare industry. Change Healthcare is not just a clearinghouse. Over the years they have taken on more than just conveyance of claims. They are a pivot point for many payers' claims processing as well as distribution of ERAs. Also, not only do they have PHI for patients, think HIPAA, they have bank account information for just about every healthcare entity in the country. I hope all of those ERA-EFT forms with bank account and routing numbers, that were sent by email or fax, are all encrypted!!!!!

The end of the year is right around the corner!! It is time to make sure all of your MACRA MIPS information meets the requirements set by CMS. If it doesn't you can still apply for a 2021 COVID waiver. Just log in to your QPP.CMS.GOV account, look at the left panel and choose to apply for a waiver. Make sure you do this for PI as well as Quality measures!

CPT 99072 Get the highest reimbursement for your office visits. Add 99072 to document and be reimbursed for additional supplies and clinical staff time required for additional COVID-19 safety protocols (temp checks, sanitation etc.).
99072: Additional supplies, materials, and clinical staff time over and above those usually included in an office visit or other nonfacility service(s), when performed during a Public Health Emergency, as defined by law, due to respiratory-transmitted infectious disease.

Maryland's Coronavirus COVID-19 exposure tracking app went live on Monday. Many cellphone users received a text message notifying them that the app, most likely already installed on their phone, is now usable in Maryland. This is an OPT-IN service. Maryland residents must choose to be a part of the esposure tracking process, it will not be enabled automatically. The information exchanged is completely anonymous. Enabled cellphones make occassional checks by bluetooth to see what devices are around them. If other COVID-19 tracking apps are enabled the app logs the anonymous device ID. If a person who has the app tests positivie for COVID19, the department of health is then able to send alerts to those who may have been in extended close contact.

CMS releases new repayment terms for the Accelerated and Advance Payment Plan.
Providers were required to make payments starting in August of this year, but with this action, repayment will be delayed until one year after payment was issued. After that first year, Medicare will automatically recoup 25% of Medicare payments otherwise owed to the provider or supplier for 11 months. At the end of the 11-month period, recoupment will increase to 50% for another 6 months. If the provider or supplier is unable to repay the total amount of the AAP during this time-period (a total of 29 months), CMS will issue letters requiring repayment of any outstanding balance, subject to an interest rate of 4%.
