St. Patrick’s Day is fun. Binge drinking? Not so much, especially for your nervous system.

Alcohol is a depressant. That means it directly slows communication between your brain and body.

When you binge drink, here’s what happens:
🧠 Slowed reaction time
🧠 Impaired coordination and balance
🧠 Disrupted sleep cycles
🧠 Increased inflammation
🧠 Dehydration (which affects spinal discs and muscle function)

And here’s the part most people don’t think about:
Your nervous system controls everything: muscle tension, posture, digestion, heart rate, and even how well you recover the next day.

Heavy alcohol use can:
• Increase nerve sensitivity (hello, headaches)
• Tighten muscles (especially neck and shoulders)

Love your skinnies? Your nerves might not.

Extremely tight clothing, especially tight jeans, can compress the nerve that runs along the upper thigh. That compression can lead to numbness, tingling, burning, or a condition called meralgia paresthetica.

And no, it’s not coming from your spine. It’s coming from external pressure on the nerve.
We see this more often than people realize.

If you’ve been feeling:
• Outer thigh numbness
• Tingling when standing or walking
• Burning sensation along the hip

Your wardrobe might be contributing.

This doesn’t mean you need to toss your closet. Just rotate what you’re wearing.

Your purse might be weighing down more than your shoulder.

Carrying a heavy bag on one side, day after day, creates an imbalance. Your body compensates by tightening muscles on one side and compressing joints on the other.

Over time, that can lead to:
• Neck tension
• Shoulder pain
• Mid-back tightness
• Headaches
• Postural shifts

A few simple fixes:
✔️ Keep extra items (makeup, gym shoes, etc.) at work instead of hauling them back and forth
✔️ Choose a bag with a wider, thicker strap to better distribute weight
✔️ Switch shoulders regularly
✔️ Periodically clean out your bag (be honest… you don’t need all of that 😉)

Small daily habits create long-term patterns.

And your spine likes symmetry, so the less uneven stress you put on it, the better it functions.

If one shoulder always feels tighter than the other…your bag might be part of the reason.
