In 2010, W.I.S.H., Women Inspiring, Helping, and Supporting, was established as a networking opportunity for women. Five years later, Melissa Lentz took on the leadership of WISH. While networking remains important, the organization’s main focus has shifted to learning about, supporting, and giving back to other community organizations and nonprofits, as well as supporting one another.
From spearheading events to collect and raise money for school-age children’s boots, to filling bags with food and turkeys for the Frederick Rescue Mission, WISH has stepped into the philanthropic world. Melissa has remained the drum major at the head of the crowd, with strong flag bearers and a band behind her, for ten years.
In October 2025, she was one of the nominees for a Frederick Do-Gooder Award. The awards recognize those who Do Good in our community. DoGood-ers are individuals or advocates who serve their communities and the people in them by giving back in small to significant ways.
