The Thursday night class at 7pm is Yang Yin. What does that mean? It means we’ll move some with our breath, we’ll practice standing poses, but we’ll also take time to slow down for some yin poses and end with an extra long savasana. This class is great for new students or students that have been practicing for years. Over the last few years I have come to really appreciate the beauty of yin! I’ve noticed that yin is what leaves me feeling the best when I step off my mat - mind, body, and spirit. Join us!

Potentially a controversial topic (though it really shouldn’t be - and perhaps the more we talk about it the less awkward it will be). I’ll post the link to the recent podcast below in the comments from .perger - Episode 284 A Basic Guide to Animal Protein. A great episode with a review of text from the Charaka Samhita (Ayurveda’s ancient text, and perhaps predating the Yoga Sutras - it’s hard to really tell). If you’ve ever felt weird about practicing yoga and eating meat and wondered if the two could coexist, this episode is for you! Enjoy!

Completing a triathlon modeled event was not on my bucket list for 2025. Yet two weeks ago I found myself paddling for three and a half hours for 12 miles down the New River as part of a two man team with my oldest son for the New River Trail Challenge. The event was a cycle, paddle, and half marathon for a total of 65.2 miles and while Luke was our team’s heavy lifter, the paddle forced me to dig deep mentally and physically. We finished the overall event in a little over 8 hours.

Endurance events and yoga may look worlds apart, but both demand the same quiet strength—breathe through the discomfort, trust your training, and discover just how far your mind and body can take you.

The strength we build on the mat (mentally and physically) or on the course becomes the resilience we carry into everything we face.

Yoga sutra 1.14 reminds us “Practice becomes firmly grounded when done for a long time, without interruption, and with sincere devotion.”

While this doesn’t mean we have to constantly be on our mats it does remind us that yoga is meant for endurance - a lifetime of learning and practice. This can be in small bites every day in some way - maybe through some poses, some breathing techniques, meditation, or reflection and journaling. Keep showing up. Keep digging deep.
