We want to thank our friends at Atlantic Builders for including us in their 2025 Give Back Home program! Each year Atlantic Builders and their contractors donate the proceeds from one of the homes they build back to local organizations. This year they donated $500,000 to 10 amazing organizations doing great work in the community!

With a very cold and snowy weekend forecasted, we hope you keep our friends at Micah Ecumenical Ministries in mind as you make your preparations. The basic supplies listed below may seem simple to some, but are life changing to our neighbors experiencing homelessness. We hope that you consider supporting our neighbors in need through this snowy weekend and the rest of this cold winter season.

The weekend weather forecast looks gnarly. ❄❄ ☃
We won't know how much until the snow starts, but they're calling for a lot of snow and extremely cold temperatures.
When winter weather hits, our neighbors experiencing homelessness are the most affected by it. The worse the weather is, the more our community is called to step up and help, to keep everyone safe, warm, and indoors.
While we track the forecast and make our emergency plans, we are collecting supplies. If we get significant snowfall, we will provide emergency 24-hour shelter to help keep our neighbors safe.

As you are picking up your own preparation supplies this week, please keep Micah and our neighbors in mind.
Things we are collecting to prepare for this weekend:
❄ cases of bottled water
❄ snack items (individually packaged is best, but we'll accept anything)
❄ hot chocolate mix
❄ extra blankets (used and clean is fine!)
❄ "Hot Hands" hand warmers
❄ sweatpants and sweatshirts (all sizes, but especially men's L and XL)
❄ Playing cards, puzzles, and/or adult coloring books

You can drop off supplies at our Micah Neighbor Care Center, at 1013 Princess Anne Street. We are open 9 am-1 pm, and again 3-4 pm, on Wednesday and Friday. We have more limited hours on Thursday because that's when our HealthBridge physicians visit. We will be open 3-4 pm on Thursday.
If you need a later drop-off time, please call us! 540-479-4116.

As we prepare for whatever winter will bring us this weekend, we know that we will keep our neighbors safe and warm... with your help.

🙏🙏 If we get lucky and the snow misses us, we can still use all the supplies we collect in our regular overnight shelter operations. Fingers crossed... 🤞

Our Story

In 2001, Dr. Timothy Powell felt the call to leave the for-profit private practice model of health care and obey Jesus command to care for the poor and spread the Gospel by opening a mission focused, non-profit health clinic that would provide high quality and affordable services to the uninsured. With the assistance of board members, local businesses and churches, and Mary Washington Hospital, the Fredericksburg Christian Health Center opened its doors in January 2003. Dr. Powell and his 3 staff were able to provide over 800 office visits to uninsured patients that year.

Over the years FCHC has grown to have up to 20 staff (to include the equivalent of 4 full-time medical providers) and 10 volunteers so that in 2010 and in 2013 we provided over 4,000 visits to uninsured patients. In 2013 Dr Stinar joined FCHC, and in 2014 we opened our satellite clinic by the Spotsylvania Courthouse. From 2003 through 2018 FCHC has provided over 45,000 visits to uninsured patients, providing over 5 million dollars in direct medical services….Our staff prays with about 1000 patients each year!

The Fredericksburg Christian Health Center has been a rotation site for medical students from the medical school at UVA. In 2016 God revealed to Dr. Powell the influence he can have on the future generation of Physicians, and called him to pursue a position with a medical school. In January of 2017 Dr. Stinar started transitioning into the role of medical director for FCHC, and in August of 2017 Dr. Powell moved to North Carolina to join the teaching staff at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Dr. Stinar’s vision for FCHC is to continue to be a mission driven non-profit ministry, providing high quality comprehensive care to the poor. We desire FCHC to be an active partner with other health professionals, community service providers, Christian ministries and churches, to accomplish our common missions of caring for the poor and sharing the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. We hope to be a catalyst in uniting the Body of Christ to be the hands and feet of Jesus together, regardless of differences in denomination, skin color, cultural background, and socioeconomic status.
