Slippery sidewalks? Channel your inner penguin. 🐧

If you have to walk on snow or ice, ditch the long strides and try the Penguin Walk to help prevent slips and falls:
✔️ Take small, shuffling steps
✔️ Keep your arms slightly out for balance
✔️ Walk flat-footed, not heel-to-toe
✔️ Lean slightly forward and go slow

It may not look graceful — but it works.

Stay safe, take it slow, and remember: when in doubt… waddle it out. 🐧

With snow and icy conditions expected in many areas this weekend, Priority Ambulance is urging drivers to take precautions to stay safe on icy roads. Even light snow or ice can significantly increase the risk of crashes, injuries, and emergency response delays.

Each year, winter weather contributes to more than 150,000 vehicle accidents and nearly 1,300 preventable deaths, with thousands more injured. These tragedies are avoidable with preparation and cautious driving.

Safety Tips for Drivers

Before you Drive:
▪️Remove all dirt, ice, and snow from vehicle sensors to ensure assistive driving features like automatic emergency braking work properly.
▪️Clean all external camera lenses and side mirrors.
▪️Check tires for adequate tread and traction.
▪️Ensure you have more than enough gas in your tank to make it to your destination.
▪️Fully charge all cellular phones to be able to make emergency phone calls if necessary.
▪️Plan for delays and possible road closures.

On the Road:
▪️Increase your following distance. Vehicles require more time to stop on icy or slushy roads.
▪️Avoid using cruise control.
▪️Accelerate and decelerate slowly.
▪️If you begin to slide, do not overcorrect; steer gently in the direction you want the front of the vehicle to go.

While drivers are urged to stay home, Priority Ambulance crews remain fully staffed, equipped, and prepared to respond during severe weather. EMS teams are trained to continue to keep communities safe during winter’s worst, closely coordinating with local public safety partners.

▪️Let faucets drip to help prevent frozen pipes

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family & Neighbors
▪️Check on elderly neighbors or those with medical needs

▪️Dress in layers and limit time outdoors during extreme cold

🐾 Pets

Winter Weather Expected — Prepare Now! ❄️

A widespread winter weather system is forecast to move across large portions of the United States, bringing a combination of snow, ice, freezing rain, and cold temperatures to many regions.

While impacts will vary by location, winter storms like this can cause:
▪️Hazardous road conditions
▪️Delays and disruptions to travel
▪️Power outages
▪️Increased risk for cold-related injuries and falls

Take time now to prepare before conditions worsen:
✔️ Monitor trusted local weather forecasts and alerts
✔️ Stock up on food, water, medications, and essentials
✔️ Charge phones and backup power sources
✔️ Plan ahead to limit travel when possible

Reducing unnecessary travel helps keep roadways safer for everyone during severe winter weather.

Flu Season is Here! Stay healthy this Winter. 🩺

Flu symptoms can come on suddenly, and while many cases are mild, it’s important to know how to protect yourself, your family, and your community.

According to the CDC, common flu symptoms may include:
▪️Fever or chills
▪️Cough or sore throat
▪️Runny or stuffy nose
▪️Body aches, headaches, or fatigue
▪️Sometimes vomiting or diarrhea (more common in children)

If you’re feeling sick:
✅ Stay home when possible
✅ Limit contact with others
✅ Follow medical guidance
✅ Seek care if symptoms worsen or you’re at higher risk for complications

For Priority Ambulance team members and their families, convenient virtual care options are available to help you get medical guidance without leaving home — especially when rest and recovery matter most.

Let’s all do our part this season — take care of yourself, look out for one another, and help keep our communities healthy. 💙
