A special message for those that struggle with decisions to help their senior parents. This message is so beautiful I want to share so you understand:

I know we all believe differently, so thank you for allowing me to share my experiences that are interlaced with my faith. I share this to spread hope.

I MUST give credit where credit is due!

Only one week in a memory care facility, my Mother is thriving! She immediately recognized me yesterday and was the sweetest to me she's been in years. A week ago, I questioned if her time was near. She has a new friend, a fiesty somewhat sarcastic woman full of mischief and humor. During Bingo, they bantered and giggled like little girls.

She has already forgotten about her house and all her things, plus her stray kittens she'd feed religiously every morning. With memory care patients you have to enter into their worlds. I asked her, "How did you find this place, it's beautiful!" She launched into a story about how she shopped around and then bought the place, etc. Which is probably partially true from memory, recalling when she bought her house; because she seems to believe her room IS her house.

I shared previously how we had 2.5 days to find a facility and get my mom moved. I do believe God lead me to the last minute decision of using all of her bedding from her master bedroom, though its a queen and her bed is a full, yet it fits perfectly. God also frustrated our plans, making it impossible to buy new furniture so that we had no choice but to use her extra room's furnishings. Due to familiarity, I believe He did this for an easy transition. It worked!

One of the most heart-wrenching things to watch was my mother's extreme loneliness these past six months. The curse of the cameras. Even though we talked numerous times a day, she wept all day. Even though she had constant calls from friends, she wept all day. And she had these bizarre episodes of irregular breathing. She was beyond lonely. Grieving. Alone with her confusion with no purpose or comfort. Her home she desperately clung to had become her prison. I often wanted to run to her, give up and go live with her, something! But I always felt held back. I felt like to go more often would be like dragging myself to prison. I berated myself for this. Questioned my own heart. Especially after her fall. But I see now that God was doing two things. He was calling her to himself, which she answered! (The blessings of having cameras.) ❤️🙏

And too, He was allowing lonliness to work it's magic, so to speak. 'Though weeping may endure for a night, joy comes in the morning.' It felt very counterintuitive not to constantly visit my mom. Cruel even. This is why we cannot live by our feelings but must be lead by God's guidance. For His ways are higher than our ways, His thoughts higher than our thoughts. We simply cannot lean on our own understanding.

She has no recollection of this anymore. Right now she only seems to be aware of her joy and her overwhelming desire to be with people. Yesterday, while making sure Mother's stray cats were ok, I told my husband I bet Mother would feel PTSD if ever in her house again. I bet she would beg to 'go home'.

Like birth pangs, once you hold that baby you forget the pain. This applies to her and me both!

The med techs and staff say they just love Mother. ❤️ She loves to help everyone and give hugs. One of the nurses who evaluated her in the hospital (before she was transported to the facility) said she cannot believe it's the same woman! A woman who begged to never go into a home, even threatening su***de.

God outdid himself! He orchestrated everything, the many moving pieces to making this all happen. What you don't know is that my mom didn't speak to me for years, but I prayed for her every day, that God would bless her. That I could somehow be in her life again. Then, suddenly we were cast into the fire of being her caregivers without a clue what to do. What a rough time it has been. Thank God for God!!!

So many people were praying for us! We have much still to do with her estate (and now I can occupy my time by visiting regularly!!). And today we need to go mow her yard again, etc. No stopping now, but finally, we feel like we can at least breathe! And laugh again!! — feeling blessed.
