Congratulations to Star Thrower award winner, Sissy MacCuish. Sissy is a respiratory therapist at Mary Washington Hospital, and recently went above and beyond for a patient she’d worked with before. She knew he was capable of managing part of his own care, so she took the time to check in, offer encouragement, and make sure he had everything he needed to feel confident doing it again.
When she noticed something small was missing that could help the patient feel more independent, she didn’t hesitate—she picked it up herself from the gift shop. That simple act made a big difference. It wasn’t just about the item—it was about showing the patient that someone believed in them.
Sissy’s kindness, support, and belief in the patient’s abilities helped restore his confidence and independence. She made a real impact, and it was a beautiful reminder of how much compassion matters. Sissy, we're you're on our team! You make a difference every day!

Cardiac Care Unit at Stafford Hospital operates in close collaboration with the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), thanks to a unified leadership team that promotes seamless communication and coordination between both units. After a successful orientation and the completion of the first year on the cardiac unit, staff have the option to transition to the ICU. We provide specialized care for a diverse patient population, including those with cardiac issues, medical step-down patients, and post-surgical patients.
