Our Story
Dr. Chicko has been treating patients in the Fredericksburg, VA area for over 10 years. He is also currently Chairperson of Podiatry for Mary Washington Hospital. Dr. Chicko was named “Top Doc” by Northern Virginia Magazine in 2013 and 2014. After a short stint working in Maryland, Dr. Chicko has returned to Fredericksburg and has opened his own practice in the Central Park Corporate Center area, located in between Lifepoint Church and Walmart Shopping Center, next to the newly opened SkyZone. We offer lunchtime, same-day and Saturday appointments with little to no wait time.
Dr. Chicko was born and raised in the Boston, MA area. He won the New England Wrestling Championships twice during his Junior and Senior years of high school. He attended Boston College on a Football scholarship and graduated with a Marketing degree. Later, he attended Northeastern University for pre-medicine. In 2001 he received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Chicko completed his three-year podiatric surgical residency at the Crozer-Keystone Health System in Delaware County, PA and was named Chief Resident. During his residency, he wrote “The Crozer-Keystone Podiatric Residency and Externship Manual”.
Dr. Chicko is board certified in both Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. But despite his extensive training, Dr. Chicko takes an “exhaust all conservative treatments” philosophy before deciding on surgery.
As a physician, Dr. Chicko enjoys connecting with his patients as well as treating them. Dr. Chicko and his staff understand that to properly treat a patient, one must consider the whole individual, not just the injured part. The office philosophy is to have a polite and pleasant office staff with a personable and compassionate physician who provides top medical care.
Dr. Chicko’s focus is to treat all members of the family, from pediatrics to adults and geriatrics. Also, as an athlete, Dr. Chicko has an interest in Sports Medicine, especially running.
In 2012, Dr. Chicko was inducted into the "Norwell High School Athletic Hall of Fame" for his achievements in both wrestling and football. Dr. Chicko has run four marathons and four half marathons (two of them pushing his son in a jogging stroller) as well as a sprint triathlon.
Dr. Chicko is married to his wife, Mary Ann and has two children. Dr. Chicko has written three novels and three memoirs, and is an editor for other writers. He is an avid cook and a hack guitarist, but mostly, Dr. Chicko likes to spend time with his family. He is also the proud Godfather of five children and is a Guardian of two.
