๐ŸŒŸ Wednesday Care Tip: Add In Foods That Can Help To Support Seasonal Allergies ๐ŸŒŸ

As we move from winter into spring, it is common to start to feel the effects of seasonal allergies. Making a few smart food choices can gently support the immune system and help the body handle inflammation more comfortably.

Here are some allergy-season favorites you can add to your plate:

๐ŸŠ Citrus fruits: Oranges, grapefruits, and clementines are rich in vitamin C, which supports immune health and may help the body respond better to allergens.

๐Ÿฅฆ Leafy greens: Spinach, kale, and broccoli provide antioxidants that can help fight inflammation and keep the body strong.

๐Ÿ“ Berries โ€“ Strawberries and blueberries offer a vitamin C boost and natural plant compounds that support overall wellness.

๐ŸŒฐ Nuts & seeds โ€“ Almonds, walnuts, and sunflower seeds add healthy fats and nutrients that can help the body manage inflammation.

Remember to always check with a healthcare provider about food allergies, medication interactions, or dietary restrictions. At
Carousel of Home Care, our caregivers can help plan simple, nutritious snacks and meals that support comfort through the changing seasons! ๐Ÿ’™

March is Womenโ€™s History Month, and at Carousel of Home Care weโ€™re proud to honor the contributions of incredible women on our team! Starting with our founder Eileen who founded Carousel of Home Care 30+ years ago with a mission to provide compassionate reliable home care that local families can trust.

From our nurses and home health aides to our office staff, the women on our team have a long history of showing up every day with the strength, skill, and compassion that is needed to support the care of those within our local communities.

Thank you! Your dedication allows veterans, seniors, and those in need to remain in the comfort of their home, preserving their dignity and bringing peace of mind to their families.

๐ŸŒŸ Wednesday Care Tip: Blood Thinner Precautions ๐ŸŒŸ

Blood thinners help prevent serious health issues like strokes or blood clots, but they need to be handled with care. Here are a few important precautions to keep in mind:

- Take as prescribed. Never skip or double up on a dose. Consistency is the key to staying safe.

- Watch your diet. Some foods (especially leafy greens) can affect how blood thinners work. Talk with your doctor before making big changes to your meals.

- Avoid injuries when possible. Even small cuts can bleed longer, so use caution with sharp objects and stay steady on your feet.

- Report unusual bruising or bleeding. Let your healthcare provider know right away if you notice anything unusual.

- Keep a medication list. Always carry a list of your medicines in case of emergency visits or new prescriptions.

At Carousel of Home Care, we help our clients manage medications safely and confidently every day. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒŸ Wednesday Care Tip: Fall Prevention ๐ŸŒŸ

Falls are one of the most common causes of injury among older adults, but the good news is that many falls can be prevented with a few simple safety steps! ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ’™

Here are some easy ways to help keep your loved one steady and safe:
โœ… Clear pathways: Remove clutter, cords, and small rugs that could cause tripping.
โœ… Keep it bright: Ensure all rooms, hallways, and stairways are well lit, especially at night.
โœ… Support with handrails: Install grab bars in the bathroom and railings on both sides of stairs.
โœ… Wear supportive footwear: Avoid loose slippers or socks that can slip easily.
โœ… Stay active: Gentle exercises like stretching or walking can improve balance and strength.

A few thoughtful changes today can make a big difference in keeping your loved ones safe tomorrow! ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŒŸ Wednesday Care Tip: Winter Snack Edition ๐ŸŒŸ

During chilly winter days, warm and nutritious snacks can bring comfort and keep energy levels steady, especially for seniors! Try these easy, interesting ideas:

๐Ÿฅ” Cinnamon-roasted sweet potato bites: Soft, naturally sweet, and rich in vitamins; roast with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

๐Ÿฅฃ Cozy Greek yogurt parfait in a mug: Layer Greek yogurt with soft berries or banana slices and a spoonful of oats for protein, probiotics, and fiber.

๐Ÿ Mini warm fruit crisps: Bake chopped apples or pears with a light oat topping in small ramekins for a dessert-like, fiber-filled treat.

๐Ÿฅ‘ Mini avocado toasts: Spread mashed avocado on whole-grain toast squares and top with sliced tomato or a bit of boiled egg for healthy fats and protein.

๐Ÿฅž Pumpkin or sweet potato pancakes: Make small pancakes using mashed pumpkin or sweet potato and serve with a dollop of yogurt instead of syrup.

Staying nourished and warm is key to winter wellness, for both seniors and caregivers! ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’š January is Glaucoma Awareness Month ๐Ÿ’š

Glaucoma is often called the โ€œsilent thief of sightโ€ because vision loss can occur gradually, without pain or symptoms until itโ€™s too late.

At Carousel of Home Care, we care deeply about helping our patients protect their vision and maintain independence. Regular eye exams are the best defense against glaucoma, especially for adults over 60 or those with a family history of the disease.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Simple steps to protect your sight:
- Schedule yearly eye exams
- Maintain a healthy diet and blood pressure
- Stay active and manage chronic conditions
- Take prescribed medications consistently
- Early detection makes all the difference

Letโ€™s spread the word and help our loved ones see clearly for years to come. ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒŸ Wednesday Care Tip: Protecting Seniors from Winter Viruses ๐ŸŒŸ

Winter viruses like flu and RSV are especially hard on seniors, and activity is currently high across much of the U.S.

To help keep your loved one safer this season:

- Encourage frequent handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after appointments or visitors.

- Limit close contact with anyone who is feeling sick, and kindly ask those with symptoms to delay inโ€‘person visits.

- Keep a small โ€œwellness stationโ€ at home stocked with tissues, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, and masks for outings.

- Talk with their healthcare provider about staying up to date on recommended vaccines (flu, COVIDโ€‘19, and RSV when appropriate).

- Even just a quick midweek check-in: โ€œHave we washed our hands? Are we stocked on supplies?โ€; can make winter a little safer and a lot less stressful for seniors and their caregivers.
