Della Crews Thank you so much!!!! ❤️🙏🏻
Huge thank you our Am Israel Chai group and to everyone who came and especially our two Holocaust survivors speakers : Mifa Bobritsky and Bella Scharf, who shared their powerful testimonies with the younger generation.
Mifa Bobritsky, 90, was born in Ukraine in 1936. She survived the Holocaust through exile, but tragically lost 64 family members, who were murdered by N**i forces and local collaborators in Ukraine, including at Babi Yar in Kyiv, where approximately 33,000 Jews were massacred in 1941, one of the largest single mass shootings of the Holocaust.
Her father, David Vainberg, was one of seven children. He worked as a civil engineer specializing in applied mechanics and was a professor and one of the founders of the Kyiv Institute of Civil Engineering. During the Stalin purges in 1937, he was arrested by the KGB and later released in 1938. When N**i forces invaded in 1941, he was placed in charge of evacuating laboratory equipment. In a remarkable act of survival and determination, he was able to arrange for his family to be evacuated along with the equipment, helping them escape via cattle train transport.
Bella Scharf, born in 1948 in Israel, shared the story of her father, Israel Scharf, who survived imprisonment in the Plaszow concentration camp in Kraków, Poland (known widely from Schindler’s List). He survived in part because of his skills as a woodworker, at times being forced to build toys and dollhouses for N**i officers’ children.
