Speaker: Michael Lacapo.

Dr. Michael D. Lacopo is a retired small-animal veterinarian and professional genealogist born and raised in northern Indiana. Researching since 1980, he has lectured internationally and written for numerous periodicals and journals. A self- described "all-American mutt," his research skills cover a broad range, with specialties in German research, Mid-Atlantic American research, genetic genealogy, social history, and advanced problem solving.

J. Mark Lowe describes himself as "born to be curious." He is a professional genealogist and educator who specializes in original records and manuscripts throughout the South. He coordinates "Research in the South" courses at IGHR, SLIG, and TIGR, worked on several TV series, hosts a YouTube channel, and does webinars.

Speaker: Doreen Johnson – GSSWI member.

Program: Using Maps in general and specifically BLM (Bureau of Land Management) GLO (General Land Office) maps for Your Genealogical Research.

A very high percentage of the people who came to our shores, came because they wanted to own their own land. If you have people who came in the late 1700's or later you should definitely have a look at the BLM's records.

Speaker: Dalva Church, Executive Director of Island County Historical Society and Museum

Program: Where the ICHS&M is going under new management. What we can look forward to in 2024.

Dalva comes to the museum after many years in academia. She has a BA in History, an MA in Humanities, and an MFA. She has a long history of working with nonprofits and volunteering in the community. Though originally coming from Ohio, Dalva loves being a transplant to Washington state, and it has been a ten-year dream to live on Whidbey. Dalva has long been a student of the history of Indigenous peoples and maritime history and is excited to apply those passions to the fascinating story of Whidbey Island.
