LI Black and Latinx Therapists Listserve:

BEmotionally Fit launched the Long Island Black & Latinx Therapists Listserv in October of 2020 in response to the high rate of requests for therapists of color from community members. Black and Latino people in particular face many obstacles in accessing mental health services often due to affordability, insurance, distance, language, or simply wanting someone they relate to. In creating this network of professionals we hope to make it easy for our community to get support from another person of color. HOOD Therapy Collection:

BEmotionally fit launched the HOOD Therapy Collection in December of 2020 dedicated to people of color serving or investing in any way to their own community. The collection serves to highlight the healing power of everyday folks Helping Ourselves to Overcome Discrimination. Sales of any item will also increase access to therapy for Black and Latinx people in Long Island. All profits will go towards a fund to pay for therapy for those with no insurance, high co-pays, or need a therapist out of network.

There's 2 people I have to see every week... my therapist and my trainer! Even though I've coached sports and am an active person...working with a trainer has taken me to a whole new level. 4 months in and Codie Payne got me feeling stronger than ever and gaining muscle in places I didn't know I could. But the mental health benefits of exercise is what has been most motivating...I have an extra boost in my mood and my energy level is up! And just like my trainer is important for my physical fitness, my therapist is important for my emotional fitness. Being in therapy for the last 2 years has been working in similar ways...even though I manage well on my own and have support from fam and friends...taking the time every week to reflect on myself, relationships, and goals with my therapist has helped me grow in ways I couldn't have imagined. Even though I don't NEED my trainer or therapist every week I do hate missing any sessions because they both help me stay motivated and focused. People often think you must have serious issues to go to therapy but you can seek support from a therapist to help maintain your well being and further your personal growth.

Is there a disorder for avoiding paperwork? I'm so behind...the procrastination continues...

Reminiscing bout pre-covid when softball was life 😭. I coached for 7 years for kids who had no prior experience...it was def challenging but my girls were the best and were down for all of it! Including my short obsession with remixing songs so we could stop using those old ass cheers 🤣. Coaching was so much fun...loved being able to mix social work with my love for sports. I remember having the kids write about their motivation to play and so many of them played to manage stress, anxiety, depression, get away from problems at home. I feel so much for our youth right now...so much of their normal ways to cope for over a year have not been available or are limited. So be extra nice to our babies!!!

Check out my cousin, Douglas, y'all!!! Making it all the way from El Salvador to Colombia to help build prevention programs to create opportunities for at risk communities through sports!! Crazy how we grew up in different worlds but share such similar passions and goals and stay getting all caught up talking bout our dreams. Making it here to the US has always been the goal...but keep hitting every roadblock possible 😭...gotta keep the dream alive though...plant the seeds of our future.

Estoy tan orgullosa de ti por seguir con tu pasión por los deportes y ayudar a los demas a pesar de todas las dificultades...espero que disfrutas Colombia y que sigas teniendo mucho exito!!
