This we’re reflecting on how far we’ve come since our founding in 1948 by a group of concerned community residents. In 1955, a sign was planted to mark the future site of the community’s first hospital that opened in 1958 to provide essential health services close to home.

Today, that 10-acre plot has grown and expanded across multiple locations, providing top-tier services as an integrated health system that we now call Washington Health.

Our reason is you.
Since 1958.

We were honored with the overwhelming turnout for our UCSF-Washington Cancer Center open house and ribbon cutting last night. Leaders from the Washington Township Health Care District Board, CEO Kimberly Hartz, and cancer center Medical Director Dr. Bogdan Eftimie joined UCSF Health leaders including Network President Brian Sinotte, and elected officials including California State Senator Aisha Wahab, and California State Assemblymember Alex Lee to celebrate this historic moment. The newly expanded regional cancer center more than triples access to world-class cancer care in our district, close to home, where family and friends can support their loved ones throughout the care journey. When the founding president of the Washington Township Health Care District stood in a cauliflower field for our groundbreaking, we made a promise to understand and respond to the needs of our neighbors at every stage of life.

Incredible Washington Health Foundation supporters like John and Chi Wong have helped us keep that promise for 65 years (and counting)!

The Wong family has stepped up to match every gift this season, up to $50,000! Donate by Dec. 31 to make 2X the impact.

Together, we’re growing the best care, close to home, rooted in community.

The Washington Hospital Service League has served our community for more than 70 years, offering volunteer service and helping local students pursue careers in health care. Since 1961, the Service League has awarded hundreds of scholarships totaling nearly $402,000, and this year’s application cycle is now open to eligible students and volunteers in our district. Applications are due April 1, 2026, and can be found online or at the hospital’s main lobby.

The Washington Hospital Service League has been in existence for 70 years—longer than the Hospital itself. During that time, countless community members have been introduced to Washington Hospital through the efforts of these volunteers. In addition to hours donated at the hospital, the Service Le...

Bodhi Day marks the moment Siddhartha Gautama achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree and became the Buddha. Many Buddhists observe this day through meditation, studying the Dharma, chanting sutras, and practicing compassion. Washington Health recognizes the mental and emotional benefits of these traditions and encourages our communities to embrace mindfulness, well-being, and kindness.

Join us in thanking and recognizing the Girl Scouts from Troops 31602, 32797, and 32289 for their thoughtful donation. These young leaders made and donated 108 scarves and 19 baby blankets, sure to bring comfort and joy to our patients! Troop 31602 has taken part in this project since 2019 and the girls tell us they look forward to this activity each year. Thank you, Girl Scouts, for your kindness and generosity during this season of giving, and to our Service League of Volunteers for coordinating their visit.
