Our team successfully completed the first Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair procedure at Washington Health using TriClip, performed by Dr. Harsh Agrawal and Dr. Sangeetha Balakrishnan. This minimally invasive procedure treats leaky heart valves by securely clipping the valve leaflets together, reducing blood leakage and improving heart function without the need for open-heart surgery. We’re proud to bring this advanced, life-saving treatment to our community, close to home.

Our team successfully completed the first transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) valve-in-valve (ViV) procedure at Washington Health, led by Dr. Harsh Agrawal, Dr. Teng Lee, and Dr. Sangeetha Balakrishnan. This minimally invasive, catheter-based procedure replaces a failed surgical mitral valve without the need for open-heart surgery. For patients, this means a shorter hospital stay and a quicker recovery, especially for those considered too high-risk for a second open-heart procedure. Congratulations to our team on this important achievement.

Today, on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we honor his powerful words: “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhuman.” While health care has made important progress, disparities still exist, and we remain committed to addressing inequities so our community can access the care they deserve. We are grateful to our dedicated team for providing compassionate, high-quality care to all.
