In celebration of nurse’s week The North Ohio–Lake Erie Nurse Honor Guard honored Alice Miller, RN today for her lifelong dedication and service to nursing. Alice graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Toledo Hospital Diploma program in 1938 and began her career in medical-surgical nursing before serving in the Navy during World War II from 1943–1947. She worked as a burn unit nurse aboard a Navy hospital ship and later served at naval hospitals in Okinawa and Jacksonville, providing critical care and compassionate support to injured patients. After the war, she continued her nursing career in hospitals across the country before earning her BSN and working in radiology at Western Reserve Hospital in Ohio.
The tribute recognized Alice’s compassion, leadership, courage, and lifelong commitment to caring for others, highlighting the lasting impact she made on countless patients and fellow nurses. During the ceremony, she was presented with a red rose symbolizing bravery and dedication, a blanket representing gratitude and comfort, and a Career Completion Certificate honoring her many years of service. The Nurse Honor Guard expressed deep appreciation for her remarkable legacy and offered prayers and well wishes for peace, comfort, and continued inspiration through the example she set for future generations of nurses.
