These scholarships are given in the name of and in memory of Sara M. Barbour, who tragically died at the age of 16 on January 15, 1998, after a hard fought, seven-month battle with cancer. She was an excellent student, because she worked hard. She was an athlete who practiced and played hard. She was generous in her praise for others, in sharing her talents, and in showing her appreciation and lov
e for others. She faced her fatal illness with uncommon faith, strength, kindness, and courage. Sara's family and friends have created this memorial to encourage the students of Bishop Hoffman School District to imitate these qualities of Sara's and to recognize each year graduates who have demonstrated them in an extraordinary way.
