Last night I had the privilege of representing the Fremont American Legion at the Fremont Downtown relays. This year they had over 60 2 person teams. One team was runners from Capitol University. They heard about this event here in Fremont. We also had several high school teams here as well. Crowd estimates were over 450 people showed up. We would like to thank Mark Glotzbecker, Dave Slater who lead the program with proceeds going to the Ft Stephenson Post 608 of the American Legion here in Fremont. Thank you to all that sponsored, helped, participated, or came to watch the event.

The July meeting of the American Legion Post 608 will take place at 7pm this Thursday, at the Fremont VFW. Meeting will be held in the Swartz Hall. This meeting is open to members and the Public. Hope to see many at this meeting.

We did our honorable duty today. "Only the crowd was a little thin. Thinking that there was a lot of civilian activities in the area. Many forgot what the holiday was really all about.

We the American Legion Post 608 would like to invite the community to attend our Memorial Day services at the Court House here in Fremont at 9am. This also includes any of our veterans to come as well as we honor all our fallen heros from Sandusky County. Recently we put grave flags out at Oakwood Cemetery which has over 2,500 veterans buried at the cemetery. Additionally, there are over 900 veterans buried at St Joseph Cemetery a couple of blocks from Oakwood. Any active service personel who happen to be visiting are more than welcome to attend as well. The service should take about 30 minutes next Monday morning.

Due to the Ross Senior Award on Thursday we will not have a monthly meeting. We are presenting a scholarship at this event. We feel it is important to offer this award to a senior who has a member of her family as a veteran.

Phase 1 of the annual putting flags on Veterans' graves completed thanks to the members of the Fremont Ross baseball team. In less than an hours the new section is completed. Talking with the crew they just mentioned that they wanted to do this public service. Talked to many and was advised that they enjoyed helping the local American Legion out. Enjoyed just being around a great bunch of kids.

We are planning on putting out grave flags at Oakwood Cemetary on Saturday May 10th starting at 8:30am. We need some additional help to get this very large job done. There are over 2500 graves that need the traditional American Flag. Are you willing to help? Need info simply call 419-355-4403. Please!!
