Well, where to start… Last night’s Films for Friends: Films for Fools (April Fool’s Day Edition) was one for the books. During our open mic segment, our friends at surprised us with a special guest, none other than , who graced the Little Theatre stage with a beautiful performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” complete with a fake butt costume (we’ve got that sort of thing lying around) in keeping with the April Fool’s Day theme.

Massive shoutout to Yo-Yo Ma and Artyard for making it such a memorable night for the Studio Route 29 community.

Opening April 11 from 1-3pm at Bruno’s!
📍58-42A Catalpa Ave, Ridgewood, NY 11385📍

‘Tomorrow is not better on the other side of the grass’ is the first exhibition at Bruno’s, Studio Route 29’s Ridgewood gallery: a group show which brings together work from artists who do and don’t work in or at Progressive art studios. The show coalesces loosely (like weather or a time of day) around the strange, strained, and fruitful positions we may take while living in/with a construction that seeks to position “nature” as separate from… anything. How are we apart from and a part of our world?
As we think about this show and this work we are thinking about adaptation: the ways in which worlds are built within this one to open windows to other ways of being and dreaming; the ways in which we stretch like weeds towards the beautiful radiating sunlights we desire while our roots dig towards soils more nourishing; the ways we may adapt painting to conceal the idealism of abstraction inside the soft materialism of a dish rag; the ways we become other to become our slicked and multiple selves, attached like barnacles to the panes between realms, trash heap angels on high.

A special delivery arrived at the studio today for Theo Baransky: a care package from Sony Pictures Classics, a production company he’s admired for quite some time. Inside were an iconic hat, a Freud’s Last Session t-shirt, and a set of film postcards...including a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon card signed by director Ang Lee!

Needless to say, Theo is elated. Huge thanks to our friends at Sony Pictures Classics for making this happen

In a style she refers to as “antique,” Tettemer offers a careful and loving interpretation of her references, from the art historical to moments and figures from her personal life. In much of her work Tettemer pulls the space of her painting up towards us with frontal perspectives that picture a world where objects are oriented towards the beholder. Her recent paintings after stained glass extend this play between surface and space.

Vision Texturer presents work by three artists who paint on Friday. A survey of their recent work on canvas, the show is held loosely together by a shared inquisitive and intuitive approach to painting-making.

Artwork:

Karyn Tettemer, Untitled (017), 2025
Acrylic on canvas
12 x 12 inches

Image descriptions:

1.) A small, colorful still-life painting of red, pink, mustard yellow and a mossy green flowers in a striped vase, set against a bold yellow interior.

2.) The small flower painting hangs alone on a large white gallery wall beside a tall window overlooking trees and a wet parking lot.

3.) Portrait of the artist working on a painting of a boombox at a bright green studio table, surrounded by brushes and other art supplies.

Presenting....Beauty Radio! Tune in via link in bio this Friday at 2:29pm : )

Beauty Radio primarily broadcasts the music we listen to at Studio Route 29 Wednesday through Friday 11-4. With a rotating group of selectors who are the artists and staff working day-to-day, the music shifts with the studio’s mood and gives listeners a portal into the current studio vibe: esoteric fruits of movie research, pump up hits, or contemplation-companion songs. Specific programs including interviews, weather reports, and puppet monologues are in the works and Beauty Radio aims to be host to broadcasts of other progressive art studio’s dance parties, stories, or audio work. Internet Radio reaches far and wide and Beauty Radio will broadcast the creative ideas, interests, stories, and parties of, by, and with artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities to the planet.

Tune in to the inaugural Beauty Radio hour this Friday, February 20, from 2:29–3:39 PM by visiting the link in our bio or heading to our website and clicking the “Conch” icon labeled “Radio” in the bottom-left corner.
