📅 Friday, April 24th

Doors: 6:00PM | Show: 6:30PM

Created by writer and director Ira Karp, this imaginative musical unfolds on a hilltop farm populated by a vibrant cast of characters—from Lucy and Edmund of Narnia to Nurse Fifi and Dr. Scrubb.

Blending the everyday with the magical, Greenwood is a whimsical “musical soap opera” filled with song and dance inspired by nursery rhymes, folk traditions, Bread and Puppet Theater, and pop music.

About Ira Karp

Ira Karp is a performer, writer, and director with Down Syndrome from Greensboro, Vermont. He previously performed at Studio Route 29’s Little Theater and has created numerous original works, often in collaboration with Bread and Puppet Theater. His creative voice is joyful, inventive, and deeply original.

Image description:

Ira Karp poses in a playful, theatrical scene, draped in a white feather boa and wearing an ornate white crown adorned with feathers, sparkling jewels, and decorative flowers. Holding a wand, Ira stands before a blue, hand-painted backdrop that enhances the whimsical tone. A hand peeks into the frame, pointing toward Ira, adding a sense of curiosity and interaction. The overall mood is lively, fun, and intriguing. Text on the image identifies it as a promotional poster for Greenwood The Musical, taking place at Studio Route 20’s Little Theater on Friday, April 24th at 6 PM.

A special presentation of Studio Route 29’s Films for Friends at 🎬

We’re bringing together videos made in our studio alongside favorites from the wider world of supported art studios—puppets, gags, music, drama, animation, dogs, money, two-headed cat creatures, catchphrases, daffodils, and more.

Well, where to start… Last night’s Films for Friends: Films for Fools (April Fool’s Day Edition) was one for the books. During our open mic segment, our friends at surprised us with a special guest, none other than , who graced the Little Theatre stage with a beautiful performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” complete with a fake butt costume (we’ve got that sort of thing lying around) in keeping with the April Fool’s Day theme.

Massive shoutout to Yo-Yo Ma and Artyard for making it such a memorable night for the Studio Route 29 community.

Opening April 11 from 1-3pm at Bruno’s!
📍58-42A Catalpa Ave, Ridgewood, NY 11385📍

‘Tomorrow is not better on the other side of the grass’ is the first exhibition at Bruno’s, Studio Route 29’s Ridgewood gallery: a group show which brings together work from artists who do and don’t work in or at Progressive art studios. The show coalesces loosely (like weather or a time of day) around the strange, strained, and fruitful positions we may take while living in/with a construction that seeks to position “nature” as separate from… anything. How are we apart from and a part of our world?
As we think about this show and this work we are thinking about adaptation: the ways in which worlds are built within this one to open windows to other ways of being and dreaming; the ways in which we stretch like weeds towards the beautiful radiating sunlights we desire while our roots dig towards soils more nourishing; the ways we may adapt painting to conceal the idealism of abstraction inside the soft materialism of a dish rag; the ways we become other to become our slicked and multiple selves, attached like barnacles to the panes between realms, trash heap angels on high.

A special delivery arrived at the studio today for Theo Baransky: a care package from Sony Pictures Classics, a production company he’s admired for quite some time. Inside were an iconic hat, a Freud’s Last Session t-shirt, and a set of film postcards...including a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon card signed by director Ang Lee!

Needless to say, Theo is elated. Huge thanks to our friends at Sony Pictures Classics for making this happen
