✨ A Love Letter to Westside Yoga ✨

Oh, Westside Yoga—what a wild, beautiful, heartbreaking, and soul-expanding ride it has been. I poured every ounce of my Leo fire into this space, willing it to thrive with sheer passion, grit, and the occasional (okay, frequent) stubbornness. I tried. HARD. I fought for it. I pushed. I forced. And then, the universe—wise, patient, and occasionally a little savage—whispered (okay, shouted): "Let. Go."

And so, after many sleepless nights, deep breaths, and a whole lot of surrender, I’m closing Westside Yoga on May 25th
(non stop f*cking crying). This decision has humbled me in ways I never expected. It’s taught me that sometimes, no matter how much heart and hustle you pour in, the timing just isn’t right. And while my spirit wanted to push my way through, I’m choosing grace. I’m choosing to honor what is, rather than what I wished it could be.

To every single one of you who stepped onto your mat in this space, who laughed, cried, stretched, wobbled, and breathed with me—I see you. I love you. I am endlessly grateful for you. Westside Yoga was never just about the walls or the classes. It was about us. And that magic? That doesn’t go away.

For now, I’m surrendering. Trusting. Bowing to what comes next. This is not the end—it’s just another transformation. And if this journey has taught me anything, it’s that even when things fall apart, something beautiful is always waiting to rise from the dust.

🧘‍♂️ Beginner Yoga – New to yoga? This is where you start. A gentle, welcoming class designed for ALL bodies and ALL levels. We use props, modifications, and guidance to help you feel comfortable and confident in every pose. No prior experience needed—just show up and breathe.

🌿 Slow Flow (Signature Class!) – A beautiful blend of movement and stretch, perfect for beginners and experienced yogis. This class is gentle, accessible, and focuses on maintaining flexibility and range of motion in the joints. Whether you’re shaking off a long day at work or just need to move your body, this is the class that makes you feel amazing.

🕯 Candlelight Restorative – If you're feeling stressed, anxious, or just need deep relaxation, this is your class. Low lights, candlelit ambiance, and long-held, floor-based poses that melt tension from your body and calm your nervous system. No experience needed—this is your time to unwind, breathe, and reset your mind, body, and spirit. Ideal for those dealing with anxiety, depression, or burnout.

💪 Yoga Sculpt – Want to tone, burn calories, and break a sweat? This is a power-packed Vinyasa flow with weights added for extra resistance and muscle engagement. A strong paced class, full-body workout that blends yoga with strength training. Perfect for those wanting to get in shape, boost endurance, and build muscle!

✨ Community Class (Sundays @ 10:30 AM) – A pay-what-you-will class open to everyone! This is an all-levels class, fun and high-energy, with a supportive and welcoming community.

Yoga isn’t one-size-fits-all.

I see so many people arguing about the “right” way to practice yoga—this style is better, that approach is wrong, this lineage is the only true path. Let me stop you right there. None of that is true.

The only “right” yoga is the one that is right for YOU. The one that calls you to your mat.

Some come to yoga for movement, strength, and sweat—Vinyasa, Yoga Sculpt, Ashtanga.

Some come to yoga for breathwork, stillness, and peace—Pranayama, Meditation, Restorative.

Some dive deep into the philosophy, the wisdom, the tradition.
Some just need an hour to breathe, to feel, to exist.

Your practice is yours. It evolves. It shifts. It grows with you. I started my journey focused purely on the physical, and now, 20 years later, I’m obsessed with the philosophy, the wisdom, the deeper layers.

Take what serves you on your mat and leave the rest. No one owns yoga but you and your own practice. That’s your sadhana. 🙏🏼

Research published in JAMA Psychiatry found that people who practiced yoga and breathwork experienced significant reductions in depressive symptoms, comparable to traditional treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

I was driving through this gloomy Fresno rain today (Wednesday), deep in my thoughts, and this question came up—can yoga help with depression?

Here’s what I know:
Movement is medicine.
Breath is medicine.

And I also know that when you’re deep in it—depression, anxiety, exhaustion—even stepping outside the house can feel impossible. But if you can just make it through the door, we’ll be here. ( I have been there)

You don’t have to talk. You don’t have to engage. You can come in, roll out your mat, and just breathe.

Healing starts from within—but you have to show up. Even if it’s just once a week. Just one hour. Just one deep breath.

I opened Westside Yoga Studio because I know what yoga did for me. I know what it can do for you. So if you’re struggling, if you need a place to just be—you have one.

No pressure. No expectations. Just movement, breath, and space to feel whatever you need to feel.

Life is wild. Things are crazy. I’ve been deep in the trenches, running around like a maniac, trying to keep my brain attached to my body. The only thing holding me together right now?

The yoga classes I teach at WYS. Seriously. If I didn’t have my Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday classes, I’d probably just float away into the void. (running a biz is cra)

But I wanted to take a second to update y’all because A LOT is happening.

Taylor had a beautiful baby girl, Scarlett 🩷 and she’s coming back to teach! She’ll be on the schedule this Saturday at 8:30 AM for a Beginner class. Next week, she’s subbing a few classes, and we’re working on getting her back on the regular schedule.

Samantha is heading out on maternity leave!
🩵 We’re sending all the good vibes her way as she prepares to welcome her little one. Her last class will be Friday, March 7th, at 5:30 PM (Restorative). If you love her class, show up and give her a proper send-off!

Oh, and I’m planning a yoga + hike event because the weather is about to be GORGEOUS.
Spring is here, the seasons are changing, and if you need a reset (like me), movement + fresh air is the way to do it.

And listen. For yoga to work, you have to show up. If you’ve been feeling off, scattered, or just straight-up exhausted—drag yourself to class.

You Never Know How You’ll Arrive on the Mat… Meet Cara.

She found her way to yoga in 2017 while on her recovery journey, searching for a practice that could help her reconnect with herself. What she discovered was life-changing—how something as simple as the breath could ease anxiety, soften stress, and offer peace in even the most difficult moments.

As a proud mother to a son with autism, Cara has spent years balancing her practice with caring for him, and she deeply believes in yoga’s ability to help others—especially those with special needs—develop self-regulation and body awareness. Her love for yoga grew from a desire to share this connection with her son, helping him feel at home in his own body.

Cara’s journey led her to complete her 200-hour yoga teacher training in 2024, with a heartfelt desire to give back to the recovery and special needs communities.

We asked Cara a few questions to get to know her better:

What inspired you to begin your yoga journey, and how has it shaped your life?

"I was inspired by a recovery yoga class I took as part of my sobriety in 2017. Practicing yoga has led to my feeling more grounded, peaceful, and even spiritual. It has given me tools to manage the anxiety and stresses that are part of living life."

If you could only practice one yoga pose for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

"Legs up the wall (Viparita Karani). It’s just so good for us! The pose helps with circulation, digestion, varicose veins, blood pressure, and more! I use it after a particularly long day on my feet or at night when I can't fall asleep."

What’s one song or artist always on your class playlist, and why does it resonate with you?
"Destiny and The Journey by Sol Rising. I love how he always seems to incorporate nature into ambient tunes we can move and flow with."
