Fresno HOPE Team

Fresno HOPE Team Healthy Options and Preventive Education HOPE Team is the prevention education program of the Pregnancy Care Center.

Since its inception in 1987, HOPE Team presenters have educated thousands of youth and adults in the Fresno area about relationships, sexuality, abstinence, and STIs. Presentations are given in middle schools, high schools, youth groups, and other community gatherings throughout the Central Valley. The “HOPE” in HOPE Team stands for Healthy Options in Prevention Education. Through powerful, interactive presentations, trained HOPE Team educators empower teens with the knowledge they need to make healthy choices for a better life. Our presentations emphasize and encourage the importance of abstinence until marriage, sexually transmitted infection prevention and awareness, healthy relationships, boundaries, effective communication skills and much more. HOPE Team presentations are designed for teens to interact with presenters, while still communicating the important message of abstinence until marriage. HOPE Team is available to speak in church youth groups, schools, and other community events.

Every day we wake up and we have a billion choices to make. No matter what yesterday looked like, we can make the choice to start new today!

Here’s 7 steps to help you make healthy choices:

1) Manage the big stuff: It’s so easy to get sidetracked by the small and insignificant issues in life, but if we spend a lot of time on trivial stuff then we won’t have time to think about and focus on the things that really matter. Don’t sweat the little things!

2) Remember your values matter: Make decisions that are consistent with your core beliefs and values. Don’t let those values waver or change because of someone else’s influence, they matter!

3) Learn from the past: Don’t repeat the same mistakes. Look at others who have been in the situation before you and learn from their mistakes!

4) Know what you know and what you DON’T know: Remember you are not an expert in everything, so don’t try to be! Seek input and advice when variables lie outside your comfort zone. Talk to your parents, older siblings, find a mentor. Seek help!

5) Keep the right perspective: Try and view an issue from every vantage point. What do the facts say? What do others in your life say about it? What is your intuition and your conscience telling you?

6) Don’t procrastinate: It’s good to “sleep on” big decisions, take some time to think about it and go through steps 1-5 but that is different than procrastinating. If you procrastinate and put things off, you may miss out on the opportunity altogether. Trust yourself and push yourself!

7) Don’t second guess yourself: Once you decide, don’t look back, make it work! Don’t over analyze your decision, keep moving forward!

Have you made your New Years Resolutions yet?! Thought we would share some tips on setting goals that will last and not fizzle out come February.

So here are 6 things to think through as you come up with your goals.
(Pro Tip - write them down!)

1) Is it ATTAINABLE? ✅
Is this something you can realistically accomplish? For example, if you have never worked out before you probably shouldn’t make it a goal to become an Olympic athlete - they train their whole lives!

2) Is it CHALLENGING? 💪🏽
A good goal can’t be so hard it is unattainable and discourages you, but it also shouldn’t be so easy that it takes almost no effort at all. We need a challenge to keep us engaged.

3)What is the TIME-LIMIT? ⏰
Without a specific time frame it is easy to push off. How many weeks/months/years do you want to accomplish this by? Write down dates!

4) Is it SPECIFIC? 🏁
Simply saying “I want to make better choices” isn’t a goal. What are those specific choices you want to make? How do you measure that?

5) Is is POSITIVE? 👍🏽
Humans thrive on encouragement and we are much more likely to achieve our goals if we have the confidence to do so. Be sure the wording of your goal is kind to yourself. For example, instead of something like “no more drama” you can say “I want to choose to surround myself with more positive influences by: spending no more than 30 minutes on social media a day”

6) Is it FLEXIBLE? 🧘🏽‍♀️
If this pandemic has taught us anything it’s that we need to be flexible with our goals. Maybe you have a goal to travel this year, but things get shut down again. Be flexible and change your timeline. Keep the goal just adjust it a little bit.

Whatever your goals are - keep working towards them! We believe in you 👏🏽

You don’t have to settle for the relationship that is more drama than fun. You don’t have to settle for images on a screen when the real thing in the right context is out there. And you don’t have to settle for making the same choices that brought you down yesterday. Today is a new day, and you deserve better.

📣📣📣Say it again until you believe it,
“I deserve better!” 🙌🏻

For P**n November we are throwing it back to when the HOPE Team consisted of just me and my husband James.

James has fearlessly shared his story with hundreds of students and young adults in the Central Valley. A p**n addiction is part of his story. And so is overcoming that addiction… And so is making a choice to wait until marriage… And being able to bond with his wife and have a healthy marriage despite his past struggles!

The HOPE Team has the opportunity to equip young people with the understanding of how harmful p**nography is to the brain and to our society, but we also get to share our stories and the HOPE that we have for love and bonding no matter what or how much we have looked at.

When you set a personal goal, be sure to define specific, concrete, and measurable action-steps that tell you what your goal looks like in real-life terms. Ask yourself: What will it take to reach that goal? Why is this a goal? How will this goal affect others in my life?

Make a plan, and then GO FOR IT! ⭐️

🎉EXCITING NEWS!!🎉

We’ve been re-structuring the HOPE Team in preparation for more and more presentation opportunities coming up, and we’re so excited to share OUR TEAM with you!!

We’ll be sharing more over the coming weeks about each of our roles on the team and little bit about each of us. STAY TUNED 👀

Also, we’re looking to continue growing the HOPE Team to reach more areas in our community. SO we are currently accepting new volunteers for outreaches and for teaching our Healthy Relationships curriculum! If you’re interested in being part of the team and want to learn more, shoot us an email or DM - we would love to have you on our team! And we would love to have guys AND gals - despite what our twirly story posts may make it seem (watch today’s story to see what we’re talking about 😂), we’re NOT just a team of ladies. If you’re passionate about healthy relationships and s*xual integrity and seeing Fresno thrive, we would love to have you on our team to share truth in our community! 🙌🏽

We just finished our annual Baby Bottle Fundraiser!
It is an incredible experience to work at a non profit that is 100% funded BY the community FOR the community. The support we receive allow us to provide FREE services to everyone who walks through our doors and allows the HOPE Team to provide FREE presentations all over the Central Valley.
And how sweet is it to see these two littles already learning to love their city?

We’re SO excited to be teaching our Purpose for Passion curriculum again! 🎉

As we were prepping today, we kept saying how we just can’t wait to teach this Wednesday. This curriculum is full of INCREDIBLE content - interesting science, practical relationship tips, and lots of personal testimony from us! It’s truly our favorite, and we can’t wait to share ( - we’re coming for you this week!! ☺️).

If your youth group is interested in having us out to share our two-day curriculum on s*xual integrity, contact us for more information!

When we set goals for ourselves, it’s important to write out practical steps for achieving each goal. This helps us know what it takes to reach our goal, and it breaks down the vision of the goal into manageable action steps. ✅

I loved teaching our Healthy Choices and Goal Setting topic today on Zoom! At the end of this presentation, we provide a time for participants to write out their short-term goals, long-term goals, and practical steps to achieve each goal.

💡Did you know: When you actually write down your goals, you are much more likely to achieve them! Start in a place of positivity by recognizing your achievements, and then believe in yourself and put that plan into place! Remember: “A goal without a plan is just a wish.” 🙌🏽
