Every day we wake up and we have a billion choices to make. No matter what yesterday looked like, we can make the choice to start new today!
Here’s 7 steps to help you make healthy choices:
1) Manage the big stuff: It’s so easy to get sidetracked by the small and insignificant issues in life, but if we spend a lot of time on trivial stuff then we won’t have time to think about and focus on the things that really matter. Don’t sweat the little things!
2) Remember your values matter: Make decisions that are consistent with your core beliefs and values. Don’t let those values waver or change because of someone else’s influence, they matter!
3) Learn from the past: Don’t repeat the same mistakes. Look at others who have been in the situation before you and learn from their mistakes!
4) Know what you know and what you DON’T know: Remember you are not an expert in everything, so don’t try to be! Seek input and advice when variables lie outside your comfort zone. Talk to your parents, older siblings, find a mentor. Seek help!
5) Keep the right perspective: Try and view an issue from every vantage point. What do the facts say? What do others in your life say about it? What is your intuition and your conscience telling you?
6) Don’t procrastinate: It’s good to “sleep on” big decisions, take some time to think about it and go through steps 1-5 but that is different than procrastinating. If you procrastinate and put things off, you may miss out on the opportunity altogether. Trust yourself and push yourself!
7) Don’t second guess yourself: Once you decide, don’t look back, make it work! Don’t over analyze your decision, keep moving forward!
