In short, Emergency Department scribes at SAMC are pre-medical students who documents patients' histories and physical exams for physicians (MD/DOs), Physician Assistants (PAs), and Nurse Practitioners (NPs). Scribes improve the ability of Emergency Department providers to rapidly and comprehensively document medical care. Our ED scribes are trained in medical terminology and documentation, and will receive extensive training to use the Saint Agnes Medical Center's Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Scribes are able to observe procedures and watch the everyday life of an Emergency Department provider. No other hospital offers the experience of working directly with physicians, NPs, and PAs in such a close capacity. Scribes have the opportunity to learn some of the innermost workings of the medical field. Applications are accepted twice a year (Fall and Spring).
