Meet Our Keynote! Dr. Tomás Aragón serves as the director of the California Department of Public Health and the State Public Health Officer, since January 4, 2021. Dr. Aragon was born and raised in the Mission District of San Francisco. His family immigrated from Nicaragua in the 1950’s. His dad worked as a cook/dishwasher in restaurants and his mom worked as a seamstress in sweat shops making clothes. When Dr. Aragon was age 5, his mom began to raise him and his 3 siblings as a single mom. Dr. Aragon currently resides in San Francisco with his family. In his spare time, Dr. Aragon enjoys spending quality time with family, reading, hiking, and jogging. He maintains a public health blog at TeamPublicHealth.substack.com .
