Are you on Nextdoor.com? You should be. Here's a post from the Northwest District Commander: Hello,
Welcome to NextDoor and Northwest Fresno! I'm Burke Farrah, and I'm your Police Captain here in the Northwest District. My email is burke.farrah@fresno.gov, and my telephone number is 559/621-6501. I don't often sit behind my desk waiting for the telephone to ring, but I am faithful to return your call if you leave me a message.
Currently, NextDoor is reaching 16,341 people in the Northwest District, including 12,689 residences. That's about 21% of all households, and we just added another 462 in the last month. About 20% of your posts concern Crime & Safety, and we're glad those issues are important to you, because they're important to us, too.
It would be easy to assume that we see all those posts, and are aware of all the things you talk about on NextDoor. Unfortunately, that's not the case. NextDoor was created for neighbors to talk to each other, and the folks that created the system hold that value in high regard. So you can see what you're neighbors art talking about, but we cannot.
As a public agency, we can post to NextDoor, and read your comments on our posts, but we can't see your posts.
Huh?
That's right, WE CAN'T SEE YOUR POSTS!
And we're okay with that. We want you to talk among yourselves without feeling like Big Brother is watching. If you want us to know about something that's happening, call our non-emergency number at 621-7000, and we'll do our best to help. Or shoot me at email at burke.farrah@fresno.gov, and I'll check into it and get back to you.
But PLEASE keep talking about crime and safety with your neighbors; as you come together and form closer neighborhoods, you'll continue to look out for each other, and you can call us when problems occur.
Thanks,
Capt. Burke Farrah
Northwest District Commander
