Check out this interview with Jackie! Thank you to Univision for inviting us to share details of what we do! We LOVE wound care!

Our very own Dr. Cazzell was invited to be part of a panel discussion at the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) where he discussed cellular and tissue products and best practices on how and when to use them most effectively and, more importantly, when not to utilize them so you do not have failures of therapy.

What an honor it was to be part of such an accomplished group of doctors (just read their credentials below and you’ll agree!) who, through their tireless work in the wound arena and clinical research, improve the lives of patients worldwide. We are proud of you, Dr. Cazzell!!! Shawn Cazzell, DPM, Valley Diabetic Foot Center

5 Tips When Choosing Diabetic Socks 🧦

❓Did you know that there are special socks just for people with diabetes?

Diabetic socks are designed to reduce the risk of injuries, promote blood flow, minimize moisture and offer antimicrobial properties that help protect the diabetic foot. Here are some tips to help you choose which socks are best for your feet!

1️⃣ Color: White or at least a white sole.
Having a white sole allows you to see if there is any blood or drainage coming from your foot. This can be caused by an ingrown toe nail, blister, crack or abrasion.

2️⃣ Seamless, or has a low profile seam that does not go over the toes.
Seams can cause irritation leading to friction, pressure, abrasions and blistering of the toes.

3️⃣ Moisture wicking and breathable.
Moisture wicking socks have blended fibers both natural and synthetic that pull moisture away from the foot and into the sock. This helps keep the foot dry and warm reducing the risk of skin infections and promoting blood flow.

4️⃣Padding to the entire bottom of the sock, if possible.
Look for extra padding on the heel, the ball of the foot and the toe box area. This helps reduce pressure to the bottom of the foot. It reduces possible friction and decreases the build up of calluses and blistering to the bottom of the foot as well.

5️⃣ A square toe box
You want the sock to be fitted but not too tight. This can cause extra pressure on the toes causing all sorts of problems.Diabetic socks should be an optimal fit for your foot. Not too constricting but conformed just right!

🎙What Does The Diabetic Foot and a Melting Popsicle have in Common?

An interview with insulin.

This episode gives an in depth explanation of how elevated blood sugars lead to Metabolic Syndrome ➡️ Insulin resistance ➡️ Hyperinsulinemia ➡️ Insulin Deficiency ➡️ Hyperglycemia ➡️ Type II Diabetes

Those are a lot of medical terms!

Below are definitions of each of the terms listed above. To help us all better understand what in the world we are talking about!!

✅Metabolic Syndrome- a cluster of conditions that increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. ( High blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol levels.

✅ Insulin Resistance- resistance to the hormone insulin, resulting in increasing blood sugar

✅ Hyperinsulinemia- the amount of insulin in your blood is higher than what’s considered normal

✅ Insulin Deficiency- when insulin-producing cells are damaged or destroyed and stop producing insulin.

✅ Hyperglycemia- high blood glucose ( blood sugar)

✅ Type II Diabetes - an impairment in the way the body regulates and uses glucose (sugar) as a fuel
