It's time for our first Saturday Spotlight of the year. We have the honor of highlighting one of our wonderful Patient Care Volunteers MaryAnn.
Get to know her below:
Who are you, and in what capacity do you volunteer for Hinds LifeCare?
My name is MaryAnn Jones and I am a Patient Care volunteer who provides companionship with patients that often feel lonely and isolated. I feel connected with the mission in regards to compassionate caring, in all the many ways in which that can be given and shared.
Do you have a secret talent?
I believe we all have secret talents. One of my secret talents is that I am a martial arts teacher of Tai Chi Chuan. I continue to teach part time though mostly from a meditative perspective now. It has enriched my life greatly.
Do you have any hobbies and if so what are they?
I have many! I enjoy engaging in contemplative and nurturing arts such as: puzzling, gardening, walking, painting, knitting, reading, tai chi, meditating, studying and creating.
If you were to thank anyone for helping shape you into the person that you have become, who would that be?
I would like to thank my parents. They passed many years ago, however they feel closer to me as the years go by. They instilled in me the love and care for all living things: nature, animals, and people. They were wonderful examples of patience and faith and trust. My parents were loving, caring and kind people who blessed me with a secure and beautiful life. As I grew into an adult with my own family and challenges, I experienced some hardships and heartbreak, but it was the foundation they gave me which stayed and strengthened me all through life. I am forever grateful to them for the life and love and guidance they gave me and for their radiant strong spirits.
