Here are 5 hard truths I always tell my patients as a dermatologist with years of experience treating skin conditions. 👇

1. Eczema is largely unrelated to being “allergic” to something. It is autoimmune.
2. Acne is not caused by diet. It is a medical condition as real as any other condition, with genetics playing a role.
3. Most melanomas do not occur in pre-existing moles. 70-80% of melanomas occur in normal skin, where there was no mole before.
4. Undertreated, severe psoriasis increases the risk of heart disease. So treat that psoriasis!
5. We love our primary care doctors and urgent care facilities, but skin conditions are best diagnosed and managed by a dermatologist. We have same-day appointments available!
