January is Stalking Awareness Month. Stalking is a deeply invasive and frightening form of abuse, and it can feel especially overwhelming when legal options don’t feel accessible, safe, or effective.

If you are being stalked by a current or former partner, please know this is not your fault— you deserve to feel safe, supported, and empowered. Call our 24/7 helpline at (559) 233-4357.

Most people don’t realize that intimate partner violence is one of the leading causes of homelessness for women and children in the United States.

When a person’s home is not a safe place, they are often forced to make heartbreaking decisions: stay in an abusive environment and risk their life to avoid losing shelter and stability, or leave and risk becoming homeless in the hope of safety for themselves and their children. Survivors face enormous barriers in choosing safety.

The Marjaree Mason Center is proud to have hosted and presented as trainers for the 2026 Point in Time Count trainings, in partnership with the Fresno Madera Continuum of Care, volunteers, and community partners. The annual census of people experiencing homelessness in Fresno and Madera Counties will take place next week. Survivors of intimate partner violence often experience housing instability, and MMC’s role in this work helps ensure that survivor voices and realities are included in the data that drives community policy and resources.

While Wear Blue Day in recognition of Human Trafficking Awareness was observed this past Sunday, raising awareness does not end after a single day. Join the Marjaree Mason Center as we stand in solidarity with survivors of human trafficking and honor their strength. While MMC’s direct services focus on intimate partner violence, we recognize the intersection of these issues and remain committed to education, awareness, and advocacy that promote safety and prevention.

If you or someone you know needs help related to human trafficking, support is available. You can contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or text “HELP” to “BeFree” (233733). The holidays may be behind us, but we’re still feeling so grateful!

A tradition years in the making, once again this holiday season, Mary Kay generously donated beauty bags that brought joy, confidence, and care to those we serve.

Thoughtful gestures like this remind us how powerful kindness can be. MMC is deeply thankful for your generosity — thank you, Mary Kay.

About the Marjaree Mason Center

The Marjaree Mason Center (MMC) was founded by the YWCA in 1979 following the death of Marjaree Mason. Marjaree was a successful, loved woman about to graduate from Fresno State at the time her life was tragically taken by her ex-boyfriend. Her death galvanized the Fresno community into taking action to ensure no one would suffer the same fate. For over 40 years, the Center has served as Fresno County’s only dedicated provider of domestic violence shelter and support services, including education for victims and youth. At MMC, we support and empower adults and their children affected by domestic violence while also striving to prevent and end the cycle of abuse through education and advocacy. We hope that one day our services are no longer necessary in our community.
