Yesterday, ADA President Dr. Brett Kessler appeared on CNN to speak out against the growing wave of fluoride bans, including in Utah and Florida.
Dr. Kessler warned that removing fluoride from public water could lead to a 25–30% increase in cavities—especially among children from lower-income families. “We’re dooming kids to a lifetime of more dental work,” he said.
Fluoridation has been a cornerstone of public health for nearly 80 years. The ADA stands by the science—and continues to support community water fluoridation as a safe, effective way to prevent tooth decay in both children and adults.
