I was a total fan girl today with !!!! I discovered her during the Covid pandemic and have used her as a resource ever since. Attending one of her trainings in person has been on my ceu bucket list. I've had the privilege of being this sweet boy's speech therapist for FIVE incredible years! We've built trains, overcome obstacles, and celebrated milestones together. TODAY, he GRADUATED!!!!!!!

I still remember his mom reaching out during the pandemic shutdown, concerned about his delayed speech. I knew right away he was very intelligent and extremely frustrated due to a motor speech disorder.

Fast forward to today, and this little boy has transformed! He's gone from being angry and struggling to communicate to being happy, joyful, and chatty!

Holden and his family have worked really hard to get him where he is today. It’s been an honor to be part of his journey! As he left today, his parting words were "I love you, Mrs. Mari!!" 🥹🥹🥹

How did you end up in Texas?

That is a question I am asked often. In 2011 we had just had our first baby boy and were living in Washington DC area. I loved it! We had a great friend group and family down the street. Mike was working lots in Houston, so we felt the best decision for our family was to relocate. I got my job on the phone, bought our house on the internet, and moved without me never even visiting Houston until we rolled through with our baby and U-Haul. Can you tell I am wild free spirit? 😂

The job I got on the phone was with . We had a reunion last week to celebrate many wonderful SLPs. It was so much fun to reflect on how this job shaped so much of the SLP I am today. In DC I worked in the medical setting and I remember how hard that first year in the school setting was. I remember how I looked up to and Barbara Bennett who now has a school named after her! I still remember calling me to see if I wanted to go to a team AAC training and being like sure. If Linda had never asked me I may not have one of my areas of specialty now. 🥰🥹
claycatstories was my very first friend in Texas because of this job! She is still to this day one of the best SLPs I know!

To all you baby SLPs don’t let social media keep you from saying yes to a profession that will make your life better in so many ways! Say yes to things that make you uncomfortable! Say yes things that are hard! This is one of the best professions out there!

I couldn’t agree more! This profession won’t make you a millionaire, but it will give you the best perspective in life to appreciate all the little things that no amount of money will ever buy you! You will also meet some of the most amazing resilient individuals and families who work endlessly for their children.
