In many cases—YES 🙌
Conditions like:
✔back pain & disc issues
✔rotator cuff injuries
✔meniscus tears
✔arthritis
✔plantar fasciitis
✔tendon injuries
often respond extremely well to physical therapy when treated early ⏳. By improving strength, mobility, joint mechanics, and movement patterns, physical therapy can reduce pain and restore function— making surgery unnecessary 🥳
The key 🔑? Consistency. Showing up, following your plan, and doing the work outside the clinic makes all the difference!
If you or a loved one have been told you need surgery, but would like to explore an alternate option, give us a call today or request an appointment online 📲 281-482-7380 | bowmanphysicaltherapy.com

🦴 Heel Spur 101

A heel spur is a small calcium deposit that forms on the heel bone due to repetitive stress and tension—often accompanying plantar fasciitis 🦶. Many people have heel spurs and don’t even know it. When pain does occur, it’s usually from irritated soft tissues, not the spur itself.
🚨Common causes include:
• Plantar fasciitis
• Tight calves or Achilles tendon
• Poor footwear
• Prolonged standing or high-impact activity

💪 How physical therapy helps:
We focus on reducing stress on the heel with targeted stretching, strengthening, manual therapy, gait and footwear guidance—helping relieve pain and prevent it from coming back🚫.
👏 Luckily, surgery is rarely needed, but therapy done right matters!

"Extensor mechanism pain syndrome" is a fancy term for pain that arises from the structures responsible for straightening (extending) the knee. The “extensor mechanism” includes: quad muscles + quad tendons + patella + patellar tendon + tibial tubercle.
This syndrome is essentially an umbrella term for pain caused by irritation, overuse, or dysfunction of any of these components. It often shows up in people who perform repetitive jumping, running, squatting, or kneeling.
Dry needling reduces tension, improves blood flow, calms tendon pain, and helps your knee move and function more normally. When combined with strengthening, it speeds your recovery and decreases strain on the extensor mechanism.

🛑 ACL rehab isn’t just about healing — it’s about preventing what comes next. Physical therapy plays a critical role before and after injury!
Here are 5 ACL facts you should know 👇🧠:

1️⃣ Most ACL tears happen WITHOUT contact.
- Cutting, pivoting, and landing mechanics are the most common causes — not collisions.

2️⃣ Female athletes are up to 3× more likely to tear their ACL.
- Differences in strength, movement patterns, and neuromuscular control play a big role.

3️⃣ Young athletes have the highest re-tear risk.
- Athletes under 25 who return to sport face a 23–29% risk of a second ACL injury.

4️⃣ Time alone doesn’t mean you’re ready to return to sport.
- ACL recovery should be based on strength, movement quality, and swelling, not just months post-surgery.

5️⃣ ACL injuries increase long-term knee arthritis risk.
- Even with surgery, ACL injuries can raise the risk of knee osteoarthritis later in life — especially if meniscus damage is involved.

Neck pain isn’t just about stiffness—it’s often a combination of joint restriction, muscle tension, and altered movement patterns.
Hands-on manual therapy helps:
👉🏻Improve joint mobility
👉🏻Reduce muscle guarding
👉🏻Decrease pain and tension
👉🏻Restore smoother, more natural movement
Used alongside targeted exercises, it helps patients move better—and feel better—long term 🤝

As we age, we don’t just get older—we lose muscle. Starting around age 30, adults lose 3–8% of their muscle mass every decade, and that decline speeds up after 60 📉This natural process, called sarcopenia, affects everything from strength and balance to metabolism and joint health.
Less muscle doesn’t just mean “weaker.”
It means:
🔻slower calorie burn
🔻higher injury + fall risk
🔻increased joint pain
🔻reduced mobility
🔻lower energy levels
The good news? 😃📣
👉🏻Muscle loss is not inevitable—and physical therapy is one of the most effective ways to fight it. Through targeted strength work, mobility training, and personalized exercise prescriptions, PT helps rebuild strength, improve balance, and keep your body functioning at its highest level at every age.
If you’re noticing more weakness, fatigue, or aches than you used to… it may be time to strengthen, not slow down. 💪
