Caring for a child with an orthotic or prosthetic device can feel overwhelming at times, but these simple tips can make life easier:

⭐ Make it fun! Let your child decorate their device with stickers or colors.
⭐ Kids grow fast! Check the fit regularly to ensure comfort and proper alignment.
⭐ Encourage movement. Safe play and exercise will help build strength and confidence.
⭐ Inspect skin daily for irritation. Make sure to keep the skin clean and moisturized!

Winter can be tough on your braces and prosthetics, but a little extra care goes a long way! Here are a few tips to keep your devices working smoothly:

❄️ Keep your device dry. Moisture from snow can damage components, so make sure to wipe it down after being outside.
❄️ Avoid extreme temperatures. Temperature changes can affect fit and function.
❄️ Cold weather can make materials brittle. Inspect your device regularly for wear.
❄️ Keep your skin moisturized to prevent irritation.

Adjusting to life after amputation can be overwhelming—but we're here to help.

Your journey to a new normal is unique and is affected by a variety of factors including the type of amputation, the rehab process, and your overall health. A well-fitted prosthesis is essential to helping you return to familiar activities—and that's where we come in.

In the first year, your limb will change, your body will relearn movement, and you'll work hard to build strength and trust in your device.

💬 Progress takes time, care, and determination, but you don't have to do it alone. The Amputee Coalition's Peer Support Programs connect you with others with similar experiences.

Whether you're recovering from a new injury or continuing your journey with orthotic or prosthetic care, one of the most important parts of building a relationship with a provider is knowing what to expect.

At Captone Orthotics & Prosthetics, we're dedicated to making the process as stress-free and efficient as possible. Check out our process. ⬇️

1. Consultation: We'll collect your insurance information, verify insurance coverage, review your medical history and device needs, and develop a care plan.
2. Casting & Measurement: An in-depth evaluation is scheduled in the office during which a casting or measurement will be performed. Insurance authorization will be submitted if needed.
3. Fitting & Delivery: An appointment for fitting and delivery will be scheduled, ranging from 30 minutes to an hour. Your device will be customized by adding padding or modifications and trimming the device to improve comfort. Please note that prosthetic patients might require 1-2 check socket fittings prior to the final device delivery.
4. Follow Up: Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to ensure that your device is fitting and functioning properly and that you're fully satisfied with your device.
