We are beyond thrilled to share that together, SPOTS Pediatric Speech Therapy and Scotty P’s raised $1419.58 for the Children’s Tumor Foundation at our “Burger Up, Antonio’s Army” event last Friday!

SPOTS was named in an effort to create awareness for Neurofibromatosis, a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow in the brain and on nerves throughout the body in honor of our little man, Antonio. Café au Lait SPOTS are one of the first signs we saw on our son that indicated something bigger might be going on than developmental delay.

Today is National RARE Disease Day so it’s the perfect opportunity to share where the name for our practice originated!

SPOTS was created in hopes that we could serve our community with Skilled & Passion Oriented Therapy Services. The inspiration comes from the mascot for Neurofibromatosis Type 1. He is a giraffe and his name is Patches.

Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that affects 1 in every 2,500 births. It has been deemed “the most common rare disorder you’ve never heard of,” and the owner’s youngest son Antonio was diagnosed in December 2022. One of the biggest markers of the disease is Cafe au Lait SPOTS, and they were the first indicator that Antonio was extra special! NF is a disease where tumors grow on the cranial nerves, on the spine, in the brain, and really anywhere in the body. It is progressive and gets more complicated as one ages, and there currently is no cure.

SPOTS is an opportunity to educate the world about NF1, and also to serve children and parents in our community by improving the quality of life for those who struggle with communication.

We are so proud of the impact SPOTS is already making, and cant wait to welcome you to our family!
