I was visiting OBX for a week and decided to keep my yoga practice going by signing up for the Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning vinyasa flow classes. Honestly, it was the highlight of my vacation! 🌊🧘‍♀️ Wes and Terri were fantastic instructors who made the classes so welcoming and engaging, no matter your skill level. The energy in the studio was so calming yet uplifting, and I left each session feeling so refreshed and grounded. If you're in OBX and looking for an incredible yoga experience, I can’t recommend Community Yoga enough.

How to Do Malasana (Garland Pose):

1. Start in Standing Position (Tadasana):

Stand with your feet slightly wider than hip-width apart.

2. Turn Toes Slightly Outward:

Your feet should angle out about 45 degrees.

3. Squat Down:

Bend your knees and lower your hips down towards the floor into a deep squat.

Try to keep your heels on the floor (use a folded blanket if they lift up).

4. Bring Hands to Heart Center:

Place your palms together in Anjali Mudra (Namaste) in front of your chest.

5. Use Elbows to Press Knees Apart:

Your elbows gently push your inner thighs out, and your chest stays lifted.

6. Lengthen Spine:

Keep your back straight and shoulders relaxed.

Duration:

Beginners: Start with 30 seconds

Intermediate: Aim for 1–2 minutes

Advanced: Can hold for up to 5 minutes with comfort

Stretches ankles, hamstrings, back, and neck

Tones abdominals

Aids digestion and strengthens metabolism

Improves pelvic and hip joint health

Excellent for prenatal yoga

Precautions:

If you have knee or hip injuries, use a cushion under your hips or practice a half squat.

People with lower back issues should keep the spine supported or avoid going too deep.

If your heels don’t touch the floor, place a rolled blanket underneath for support.

Pregnant women should consult a doctor or prenatal yoga expert before starting.
