Ladies, I have more clients working through this new stage of parenthood - having adult children with children.
I get it. I have four! Nobody prepares you. There is no “What to expect” books about this. It’s tough.
We go from being responsible for their every need, watching them sleep, kissing and hugging them, consoling their hurts, being their biggest cheerleader … to unanswered text messages, sometimes visits for a meal only, calls only to ask if you can babysit and some are dealing with in-law issues. ❤️
It is up to you to communicate and create healthy boundaries instead of complaining that you feel “used” or forgotten. Get out of victim mentality and into a positive mindset.❤️
Many envisioned being more involved/invited to grandchildren activities and so on.
If your children are building their own lives, you need to be happy for them. They too are navigating this new season in their lives.❤️
Some will realize the importance of their parents/grandparents, others sadly will not. Many times they will only understand when they experience it for themselves.
Communicate in a respectful, non-victimized way that you miss them and would love to … xyz. ❤️
I encourage you not to put all the blame on your son or daughter-in-law because after all your child is allowing it OR they are fueling it. Ouch!
I encourage you to avoid being hurt or bitter by making YOUR life better.
Build on this new season of life - for YOU. Create a list of things you always wanted to do, places you have always wanted to visit. Focus on self-care and self-development. This is YOUR time!
Practice healthy boundaries and live your best life … because waiting for them to change or expecting them to wake up one day and realize your feelings and needs — simply sets you up for unmet expectations, disappointment, and hurt.
Take this season to enjoy YOUR life and when you get together … enjoy the time fully - but with mutual respect and mutual needs met.❤️
If you are having a hard time with this … send me a DM to find out how you can easily learn how to communicate what you want (this is a hard one for most women), realize it is not all about you - they have a new family now. It’s a balance. ❤️
Learn to create healthy boundaries and live the life you were created to live!❤️
I am here to help you get there! ❤️
