As summer heats up, it’s important to recognize the symptoms of heat-related illnesses.

☀️ Heat Exhaustion
• Faint or dizzy
• Excessive sweating
• Cool, pale, clammy skin
• Nausea or vomiting
• Rapid, weak pulse
• Muscle cramps

🔥 Heat Stroke (a medical emergency)
• Throbbing headache
• No sweating
• Body temperature above 103°F
• Red, hot, dry skin
• Nausea or vomiting
• Rapid, strong pulse
• May lose consciousness

👨‍⚕️ If someone is experiencing symptoms of heat stroke, call 911 immediately and try to cool them down.

Prenatal Classes will begin August 4! 🍼

The CCHD will offer Prenatal Classes in 6 sessions. If you attend all 6 sessions, you will receive a large baby item of your choice! 🥳

Note: You will only sign up once and that will be for all 6 sessions. Individuals will not be able to sign up after the first session. Once all 6 sessions are complete, a new 6 session course will be scheduled.

The Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (KSFMNP) is providing low-income seniors who meet age and income requirements with $50 in checks to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey from authorized farmers at local participating farmers markets, July 14 through Sept 30, 2025. Checks are available in $5 increments.

To be eligible to receive KSFMNP checks, the following criteria must be met:
1. Age: A senior must be 60 years old or older on the day the money is issued.
2. Income level: A senior’s annual gross household income (before taxes are withheld) must be at or below 185% of the federal poverty level. For example, a household of one must have an annual gross income at or below $28,953 or a monthly gross income at or below $2,413.

Applications for the Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program will be available starting on July 14th at the Pittsburg Public Housing Authority located at 101 N Pine St. Seniors may apply on-site from Monday – Friday from 9am to 4pm (our office is closed between 12pm and 1pm for lunch). Seniors will need to present a valid ID. Funds are limited and benefits will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
