Attention ASPC members. The FY 2026 Hospital Inpatient PPS rule includes an essential update for lipid disorders. New ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes for familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) took effect on October 1, 2025.

New FH codes:
• E78.010 Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH)
• E78.011 Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH)
• E78.019 Familial hypercholesterolemia, unspecified

These updates support more precise documentation, coding, and recognition of FH in clinical practice. Full details are available in Table 6A of the rule: https://ow.ly/6jC650XK3zo.

A globally recognized leader in preventive cardiology, Dr. Nasir is Chief of Cardiovascular Prevention at Houston Methodist, Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell, and Co-Director of the Houston Methodist–Rice University Digital Health Institute. With over 1,000 peer-reviewed publications, he brings unmatched expertise in risk prediction, digital health, health equity, and high-value prevention strategies.
