In the first episode of Pioneers of Plastic Surgery, we travel back to 1908 to meet Dr. Jules Poullet, an incredible surgeon who dared to push the boundaries of surgery to promote its use for the treatment of facial aging. Once forgotten in time, his lecture at the 21st French Surgical Congress marked the first time a surgeon had openly discussed facelifting to a professional audience. Poullet died before the procedure took off in the 1920's and never received the credit that he so deserved. Today, we honor his contributions to plastic surgery, at a time when cosmetic procedures were considered taboo.
