What does independence really look like for a young adult leaving foster care?

It’s not just getting a job or finding a place to live. It’s learning how to budget money, manage responsibilities, build healthy relationships, and navigate life without a consistent support system. For many, these are skills they were never taught but are expected to know overnight.

Our Transitional Housing Program bridges that gap. We provide guidance, structure, and real-life skill development so young adults can step into independence with confidence.

Because independence shouldn’t feel like being alone. It should feel like being prepared.

Today we joined fellow nonprofits at the Pat Nixon Day of Service at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum to share how we’re making a difference in our communities and to connect with others doing the same work.

Grateful for spaces like this that remind us how much stronger our impact becomes when nonprofits collaborate, share ideas, and uplift one another.

Here’s to continuing the work, together.

Foster care is about showing up with patience, compassion, and a willingness to help a young person feel safe again.

Many people think fostering requires special circumstances, but the truth is that caring individuals from many different backgrounds can become foster parents.

What matters most is your heart and your commitment to helping a child find stability during a difficult time.

With the right support, training, and resources, you can foster with confidence and become part of a community dedicated to healing and hope.

If you have ever thought about fostering, this might be your moment to take the first step.

Research shows that around 20% of young adults aging out of foster care experience homelessness within a few years, and that percentage continues to increase in the years that follow without sustained support.

The period immediately after foster care is a pivotal window. Outcomes during these early years often shape long-term stability.

Preventing homelessness among former foster youth requires intentional, early intervention. Transitional housing is a strategy for long-term community impact.

Did you know?

Crittenton began in a single house. Today, we operate five programs supporting children and families every day.

Healing starts with care, compassion, and connection. Our services work together to uplift children, empower families, and build brighter futures:

• Foster Care – We provide safe, stable homes through trained Foster Parents who offer consistent support and guidance.
• Residential Care – Children and teens receive a safe place to live, structured daily support, and access to education and therapeutic care.
• Mental Health – Our community-based clinical services help children and families build coping skills and move toward lasting healing.
• Transitional Housing – Young adults gain stable housing, life skills, and career development as they prepare for independence.
• Family Preservation – Families receive in-home support, parenting education, and resources that help them remain safely together.

Together, these programs create pathways toward stability, resilience, and long-term healing.

We invite you to join us for our upcoming Cook’s Night Out fundraiser at Fratellino’s Restaurant on Tuesday, February 24th and Wednesday, February 25th.

Twice a year, the Felicia Auxiliary hosts this two-day event in support of Crittenton. All funds raised directly benefit the children and families we serve, making this a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a meal while giving back to your community.

The offer is valid during both lunch and dinner hours, and the flyer will also be honored for takeout orders if you are unable to dine in.

We are incredibly thankful for the continued support of our community and for the Felicia Auxiliary’s ongoing commitment to Crittenton’s mission.

We hope to see you there.

Trauma can shift a life in ways no one asks for. Healing begins when people are given the choice, agency, and possibility to move forward on their own terms.

At Crittenton, we walk alongside those in our care as they create new paths rooted in safety, care, and hope.

Did you know One of our longest-serving employees has been with Crittenton for over 36 years?

Lasting impact does not happen overnight. It is built by people who show up, stay rooted in purpose, and carry the mission forward year after year. This is the kind of commitment that changes lives and strengthens communities.
