I often tell my children that life goes by in the blink of an eye, one moment youโre their age, and before you know it, youโre mine. The same is true when it comes to falling out of shape. I had always been active and athletic, but when I hit 50, I began to slip. I stopped paying attention to my fitness, and there always seemed to be something standing in the way. As the โbeforeโ picture shows, I ended up 50โ60 pounds overweight and completely out of shape. I was so winded that walking up just two or three flights of stairs left me out of breath and light-headed.
For Christmas 2024, my daughter gifted me a free month at Burn Boot Camp in Fulshear. I attended my first camp on January 3rd, 2025. To say I was shocked is an understatement, I couldnโt even make it through the warm-up without stopping to catch my breath. What hit me the hardest was realizing I couldnโt do five push-ups. Five push-ups! I decided right then and there that Burn Boot Camp in Fulshear, TX, was exactly where I needed to be.
With the expert guidance of the trainers, I was able to get moving quickly. Iโve come to accept that Iโll never do what I did in my twenties, but I can be in shape again. Iโve lost over 40 pounds just by showing up an average of four to five days a week, and with the help of the caring trainers, Iโve changed the way I eat as well.
One of the things I love most about Burn is that you can modify your workout to match where you are on your fitness journey. The trainers truly care, they push you when you need it and cheer you on when you "crush" the next goal. Iโm doing things today that I never would have believed possible just a year ago.
I wish I had come up with this line myself, but I read it somewhere and it fits me perfectly: โI would rather be the oldest at Burn/gym than the youngest at the old folksโ home.โ
