At Eternal Dermatology, we treat many hair conditions including Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia (CCCA). This condition is commonly seen in women of African descent. It can present in different ways, including a bald spot at the top of the scalp.

Though harsh hair grooming practices can contribute to CCCA, there is a genetic component of this condition. If you’re struggling, see a dermatologist for help.

Erythema ab igne, also known as toasted skin syndrome, is a skin condition caused by prolonged exposure to low level heat. The condition presents as an itchy rash in a net like pattern that is red or brown in coloration. Different products like heating pads, heated blankets, space heaters, and laptops can contribute to the development of this condition.

Here, this young man has trichoepithelioma, a skin condition where benign tumors form from the hair follicles. There are many conditions that can present on the skin and scalp that may be rare or people don’t see everyday. Instead of judging and contributing to stigmas, educate yourselves and be empathetic towards others.

Seborrheic dermatitis, also known as dandruff, is a condition that causes scaling and flaking of the scalp and skin. Psoriasis on the other hand is an inflammatory condition that results in thick, inflamed, and scaling on the skin and other areas of the body, such as the joints.

Though they present similarly, the underlying cause of both conditions are different. If you’re experiencing these symptoms and nothing is working, see your dermatologist so they can determine which condition you have and make an appropriate treatment plan.
