I am a Women’s Wellness & Cancer Exercise Specialist who loves to talk about fitting wellness into real life. As a lover of pizza, cabernet, and dessert, (especially white cake with white frosting~make it almond-flavored and look out--’cause I'm definitely going in! ) I frequently go off on tangents, and wants the world to understand that living a healthy lifestyle and real life really can co-exist! Rarely do I leave the house without something sparkly, furry or animal print (sometimes all 3) and my "we both agree that we are never getting married but we are totally committed" emerald ring even if it is just a trip to the grocery store or to roadie for my fav drummer (her "husband-like-person", Joe). WARNING: I laugh all of the time, even when inappropriate, most likely because I am trying not to blurt out an inappropriate joke that popped in my head. I truly believe that everyone should make their Mid-years their BEST years and feel compelled to help those who are often ignored or minimized--especially those who ignore and minimize their own needs.

If you’re a woman over 40 trying to balance your hormones, beat fatigue, and feel better in your body… your kitchen could be secretly sabotaging your progress.

Even healthy-looking foods can sneak in ingredients that raise stress hormones, interfere with hunger cues, and drain your energy.

Here are 4 common offenders to check for:
1️⃣ Refined seed oils like soybean & canola
2️⃣ Added sugars in protein bars, sauces, and even 'healthy' cereals
3️⃣ Ultra-processed 'diet' foods with artificial sweeteners
4️⃣ Plastics, receipts, and nonstick pans that contain hormone-disrupting chemicals

FOODIE FRIDAY!
If you’re a busy woman over 40 juggling home, work, and family, this is for you...

✔️ 24g protein per burger
✔️ Healthy fats for brain & hormone health
✔️ Ready in 15 minutes
✔️ Easy to batch prep

Easy Omega-3 Salmon Burgers
(Makes 4 burgers)

1 can (14–15 oz / 400 g) wild-caught salmon, drained & flaked
2 large eggs
½ cup (50 g) rolled oats or oat flour
¼ cup (40 g) finely chopped onion
2 tbsp (30 g) Dijon mustard
1 tbsp (15 ml) olive oil or avocado oil
Juice of ½ lemon (about 1 tbsp / 15 ml)
1 tbsp (4 g) chopped parsley or dill (optional)
Pinch of salt & pepper

Start by mixing all the ingredients in a bowl. Form the mixture into 4 patties and chill in the fridge for at least 5-10 minutes.

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the burgers 4-5 minutes per side, until golden brown.

Serve on a lettuce wrap, whole grain bun, or over greens with a squeeze of lemon. Yum!

Nutrition info per burger: Calories, 240; Fat, 13 g; Carbs, 6 g; Fiber, 1 g; Protein, 24 g.

If you’re a woman over 40 who wants to feel stronger, improve your endurance, and protect your heart health...

Ever wonder how your cardio fitness stacks up, even if it’s just against your own baseline?

This 3-minute step test is a simple, at-home method to measure it.

Here’s how to do the test:

🦵 Grab a 12-inch (30.5 cm) step, bench, or sturdy box
🥁 Set a metronome app to 96 beats per minute
⏱ Step to the beat for 3 minutes
→ Up with your right foot, then up with your left
→ Down with your right, then down with your left
🔁 Switch lead legs at the halfway point (90 seconds)

When time’s up, sit down immediately and:
✅ If you’re counting manually, start counting your heart rate at a pulse point for exactly 1 minute
✅ If you’re using a heart rate monitor, record your heart rate at exactly one minute after sitting down.

Then check the chart in this post to see where you land.

The lower your heart rate after exercise, the stronger your recovery response, and that’s a great sign of cardiovascular fitness.

I am a wellness coach who recently turned 50 and bought my first bikini in over 17 years! (My daughter turns 17 this year, so you may notice a correlation there!) I was never athletic growing up and only became interested in wellness in 2005 when I was diagnosed with Colitis. I was determined to get off of over $200 in month in medications and find a natural way to ease my symptoms. Through the help of a fabulous Gastroenterologist, I have been in remission for over 10 year now.

As part of my wellness journey, (and throughout my entire life!), like most women, my weight has fluctuated 10 to 20 pounds on either side of the scale. I have tried just about every program out there, all which work great at first, but then the program either fails me or I fail the program!

Recently, I joined a program that was truly life changing and has resulted in me being in the best of my life ever--at 50--and I have ABS! I have never had abs before!
