Why is Recovery Hard?

Recovery is hard because it often requires significant changes to one's lifestyle, habits, and mindset. Overcoming challenges such as addiction, illness, or trauma involves not only physical healing but also emotional and psychological resilience. The journey can be fraught with setbacks, self-doubt, and the discomfort of stepping out of one's comfort zone.

Support systems, such as family, friends, and professional help, play a crucial role, but ultimately, the determination and commitment to persevere come from within. It's a gradual process, with progress sometimes seeming slow or imperceptible, but each small step forward is a victory worth celebrating.

What Victories have you experienced recently?

Join us tonight at 6:30pm at the Fulton Alliance Church for Celebrate Recovery. Recovery isn't so hard when you're not alone.

Our journey through life is a balancing act.

Be open, be honest, try new things that might not work, and fix broken old things. It’ll take us farther.

Ultimately, TRUST God. And when an acorn falls on your head, stop for a second to ask yourself: “Is the sky falling, or am I standing under an oak tree?”

If someone else tries to tell you the sky is falling, take a look above their head, too. What’s motivating that fear? Is it justified, or did they, too, not see the little acorn falling from the tree?

The important part is don't give into fear. Most of the time, you’ll find it’s the latter. Move a little to the side and continue with life while placing the fear and anxiety in Jesus' hands. He's got it all under control.

PS You are not the only Little Chicken.... 😉

Psalm 56:3
When I am afraid,
I put my trust in you.

Healthy boundaries are guidelines or limits that a person sets to protect their well-being and personal space. They help individuals define what behaviors are acceptable and unacceptable in their relationships and interactions with others. Establishing healthy boundaries allows people to communicate their needs and expectations clearly, leading to more respectful and fulfilling relationships.

These boundaries can manifest in various ways, such as:

1. **Emotional Boundaries**: Protecting your feelings by being clear about what you're comfortable sharing and what you're not.

2. **Physical Boundaries**: Respect your personal space and physical needs, such as needing time alone or avoiding physical contact.

3. **Time Boundaries**: Ensuring you have time for yourself and your priorities and not overcommitting to others.

4. **Material Boundaries**: Setting limits on lending or sharing possessions and finances.

5. **Digital Boundaries**: Managing how you interact with others online and how much you share on social media.

By maintaining healthy boundaries, individuals can create a balanced life that honors their values and needs, fostering a sense of empowerment and self-respect.

What types of boundaries have you set since you started your Recovery Journey?

Galatians 6:5
For each will have to bear his own load.

Rest is a crucial component of maintaining overall health and well-being. It allows the body to repair and rejuvenate itself, ensuring that both physical and mental states are kept in balance.

Hebrews 4:9-10
So there is still a Sabbath rest for God’s people. God rested from his work. Those who enjoy God’s rest also rest from their works.

Psalm 34:17-18
17 When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

This bible verse is talking about how God is always there for us, no matter what. It says that when we're feeling down and out, we can cry out to Him and He'll hear us. God will help us through our troubles and save us from feeling crushed. It's a really comforting thought, knowing that we're never alone.

In John 14:6, Jesus says, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

This verse is a powerful declaration of hope. Jesus invites us to know God personally, not through rituals or perfection, but through Him. He is the bridge to peace, forgiveness, and eternal life. No matter your past, He offers you a path to a new beginning.

If you’ve been searching for meaning, know that Jesus is the way. If you’ve felt lost in uncertainty, He is the truth. And if life feels empty, He offers abundant life to all who come to Him.

Prayer:
Jesus, I may not fully understand everything, but I want to know You more. Show me the way, guide me into truth, and fill me with the life only You can give. Help me to trust You today. Amen.

The Bible teaches that words can significantly impact our health, behavior, and relationships. They can build people up or tear them down, inspire or discourage, and incite love or violence.

I've learned to season my words with salt rather than pepper. It takes practice because not everything passes through that biblical filter.

A useful tool in your recovery journey. These words also matter in how you speak to yourself!

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue."
Proverbs 18:21

"Our words have the power to destroy and the power to build up"
Proverbs 12:6

"Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies!"
Psalm 34:13

"The one who guards his mouth preserves his life; the one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin"
Proverbs 13:3

"A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit"
Proverbs 15:4

"But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment"
Matthew 12:36

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen"
Ephesians 4:29

Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Collosians 4:6

Amen
