Do you leak urine when you cough / yell / laugh / jump / run? Do you get low back pain after bending over repetitively or lifting? Do you to tend to hold your breath frequently when focusing on tasks? 🧐
Chances are, you are not properly activating your core and breathing through the activities! Did you know that your breathing, core activation, and pelvic floor are all intricately connected and work together? If one are is not doing its job, the others are having to pick up the slack and are therefore not as efficient. 🤪
In short, pressure management and load transfer refer to your body's internal ability to prepare for some sort of external load. An increase in pressure can be from running, laughing, coughing, lifting your child or groceries, pushing a shopping cart... you name it. This is not something you think about doing! In a perfectly functioning system, it just *happens*.
When things may not be working so efficiently, dysfunction and/or injuries can occur... hence, incontinence, low back pain, etc. 😫 All of this can put extra, unnecessary strain on the muscles of your pelvic floor.
A pelvic floor PT has plenty of tools and knowledge on how to assess your ability to manage different pressures and transfer loads. 👀
Whether you have a weakness, a difficulty with coordination / body awareness, a restricted mobility, etc... a Pelvic PT can help you learn how to activate your core without holding your breath in order to help your pelvic floor function better! 🌸
What is your favorite core exercise?! I have a love-hate relationship with planks. Love: they are challenging and help me focus on working through the urge to breath hold. Hate: do I really need to explain? 😅
