Eihwaz: the rune of yew.

Life and death in one breath.
Evergreen, yet poisonous.
Guardian of graves, maker of arrows.

It asks: how do you hold both?

In many ways I look at Eihwaz as a more mature take on the entire first aett: we are soul in form. But the first-aett experience of it is new, shiny, and very likely fun. We can’t come through entry into the second aett without realizing there’s a great deal more to formed being than that, and despite how fondly we may look back on our formative runes, we now are charged with holding that bright optimism amidst really challenging times.

By the time we get to Eihwaz, we can’t think of our mortality without thinking of our divinity, and we can’t think of our divinity without thinking of our mortality. They are inseparable.

This rune sits at the heart of the Futhark for a reason.
It's the pivot point.
The choice to remember your own sacredness, even when the world feels anything but.

The yew bends but doesn't break.
